When I was at uni in London my student union was just round the corner from Ministry of Sound so went there a few times.

However between '92-'95, every Saturday night I could be found at the Whirl-y-Gig in Shoreditch Town Hall. I think I missed about 3 nights there in 4 years. The place was magical although other things may have influenced my feelings at the time. There's even a FaceBook group for all us ex-gurning refugees.

Ask Dave (the landlord, in case you didn't know) if Sean's in, he'll point me out - though like I say, I'm rarely in there nowadays. Might make it one night next week, if I can!

Presumably you weren't at UCL due to the MoS proximity ... but did you ever go to UCL Union cocktail night of a Thursday evening (I was at UCL, 90-93), as tons of us would follow that up with a short trek over to The Rising Sun pub (somewhere between Euston and Camden iirc) with its late license and live music until around 1ish

Krish, being a fellow fellow University of London Student (QMW) went to cocktails a few times at UCL, E1 ( QMW union) still open, Hombres in Oxford St - pikey £1 a shot but you had to go and Eros in Enfield when i was 17 ( 10 years back now) - shut down now

When I was at uni up in Leicester in late 90s I remember having some great nights up Flaming Colossus- helped that I went a couple of times in a group along with the lovely Vivien Solari and her mates before she got whisked off to the NY catwalks! Mozzie Coast and Le Palais De Dance were also good laugh on student nights too and I became a dedicated follower of Passion after I was introduced to the Emporium in (the middle of nowhere!) Coalville.

After moving back south in the early 00s I used to go clubbing up London a couple of times a month. Big Beat Boutique Vs Bugged Out at Fabric was always great as was The Gallery at Turnmills, which has now unfortunately closed to make way for some flats Also went to a couple of raves at Camden Palace before it was changed into Koko. The 2 times i went to Ministry of Sound i didn't enjoy much though as it seemed to be full of poseurs and tourists.

Nowadays I don't think I could manage an all night clubbing session up London and there aren't any decent clubs nearby since Empire and the Sanctuary in Milton Keynes closed down, so the closest i get is when someone decides to have their birthday up one of the local Luminar venues

Ditto, pretty much went to Peach at Camden Palace every Friday night for about 5 years (now that it's Koko it's cleaned up but lost all of it's charm)

I miss Turnmills, went to the last night, it went out with a bang !!

No I was at Southbank Poly/Uni and never ventured over UCL way. We did hear that you guys had a cracking union though, unlike ours that actually closed at weekends.

And for the person that said they found Ministry of Sound to be full of posers, you're 100% right. Friday nights were usually worse for them than Saturday for some reason.

Loads in my time (33 now and been clubbing since I was 14!) but without doubt the best was The Hacienda in M'cr closely followed by Back to Basics in Leeds. The Hac was a dump but if you never went then you really should believe the hype - truly awesome.

These days if I go 'proper' clubbing (ie places like Walkabout, Fifteens etc excluded) then The Brickhouse on Whitworth Stin Mcr is a stormer - indie all the way. Couple of Hundred in and it's packed. Immense!

Top place the brickhouse, was up visiting friends last xmas and went to see reverend and the makers and ian brown at some old station? not sure what the venue was called and went clubbing afterwards had a storming time

Yeah I used to go to Hombres de Bahia off of oxford street back in the day. Pound a drink all night!

Also used to go to the Dub club in Tufnell park, Jah Shaka at the Rocket Holloway road. Villa Stefanos in Holborn, Big Kahuna Burger at Turnmills. Dive Bar in Soho. Ministry of Sound (92-95)

Back in the 80's (When I was a serious Soulboy!) I used to go to the Best disco in town on fridays at the Lyceum ballroom. The 523 club in Dalston.
Goldmine Canvey Island, Room at the top Ilford. Eltons in Tottenham.

And coming this september I'm off to the Caister weekender for 3 days of soulfull indulgence!

Drum club at the soundshaft was my poison back in the 90's also megatripolis which used to be once a month on a Thursday in Heaven if I remember and Club UK a few times then got into the Gallery at Turnmills, Cream and Godskitchen, getting a bit old for it now so save it up until we get to Ibiza!!

I'm sure I had a similar thread to this Rob. Anyway, here's the clubs I used to frequent :

• The Hac - Without a doubt the best club in the universe. It was truly truly special and those nights will live with me forever. I disagree that it was a dump, it was when compared to clubs nowadays, but back in the late 80s, early 90s it was special.
• Golden @ The Void in Hanley / Sankeys Soap in Mcr - Again a special special night and Sankeys was dingy and grotty, but boy did it rock.
  
• Shelleys Laserdome, Stoke - Words cannot describe how good this place was. Only went a couple of times but it was tremendous.
  
• Renaissance @ Venue 44, Mansfield - This was opulent clubbing and with Sasha and Digweed as residents it could not fail.
  
• Cream @ Nation, Liverpool - Another great night and one of the best club layouts ever.
  
• Chuff Chuff at various locations throughout the UK - This was top top top notch clubbin. Usually in stately homes, great line ups and full of beautiful people.
• Love2Be @ The Music Factory, Sheffield - I had quite possibly my best ever night there, NYE 1995. Those Yorkshire people sure no how to party, with this in mind an honourable mention must also go to Gatecrasher (the early years before it was taken over by kids in stupid outfits and flourescent hair).
• Yellow @ The Boardwalk, Mcr - If you wanted a funky Friday night then this was the place to be. Great warm up for The Hac the following day. Dave Haslam was great and introduced a lot of us clubbers to the joys of funk and disco. Friday nights we were boogying away to The Emotions and Saturdays we were dancing to Joey Beltram. It was a great place to learn how to dance with soul.

Other mentions must go to Angels in Burnley, Miss Moneypennys in Brum, Back2Basics in Leeds, Hard Times in Huddersfield, Milleniums in Alderley Edge, and Home in Mcr.

Must agree this was one of the best rave clubs back in the day used to attend regular And also Entropy at the leisure bowl in stoke on trent. Later changed to Kinetic.
