I know you wanted some slower rock but, this to me is great track, arguably Van Halen's greatest track. The guitar work on this track is breath taking.
Joe Satriani - Flying in a Blue Dream / The Forgotten Pt 2 / Time Machine
Gary Moore - Parisienne Walkways
Steve Stevens - Top Gun Anthem (cheesy I know, but I like playing it :o )
John Petrucci (Dream Theater) - virtually everything he does. I can't play 90% of it, but I like to try lol!

Gotta be some Schenker. The thing is these are beautiful songs on their own. His guitar is so restrained and only comes to the fore when required and even then it doesn't get in the way, it compliments the songs like no-one else can do.
Put your headphones on, close your eyes and be transported into a world of emotion:
"Try Me" - the most exquisite song of all time. It's a couple of minutes before the guitar comes in, but it's not a hardship waiting for it. Short and oh so sweet.
"Lost Horizons" - did you ever hear someone use the word epic for a song? If it wasn't for this one they're wrong.
"Love to Love" - Is this more epic than Lost Horizons? It sure puts a lump in my throat.

i really liked guns n roses when appetite for destruction came out, i had a few metalhead friends and worked with a couple, and didn't like the rest of what they played, typically iron maiden at the time, but guns r roses were more of a hard rock band, a modern rolling stones almost. i also remember hearing the demos of november rain and thinking it was a decent song but didn't fit in with the rest of what they had done. when use your illusion came out it was a big dissapointment as it seemed they had chucked on every track under the sun, and unfortunately most of them weren't a patch on the last album, so they just brought the whole album down. i thought the final version of november rain was the kind of cheesy smaltzy crap that i liked the band for avoiding
to me, the original gnr were a hard all out rock band, but november rain, and the covers of knocking on heavens door and sympathy for the devil just put me off them even more. those three tracks were just awful. i really liked the spaghetti incident though, as it was a return to the rock of the first album.
they then got even worse when they started stadium tours, i think those tours really spoil the majority of bands. i saw them a year or two in an arena and they were okay though. they went on about 2 hours late though!

Artie - I have never heard any of those 3 before and have to say they are sublime!!! The only MSG songs I have are Anytime and Armed & Ready. Will be looking for all 3 today! Any more from them that you could recommend would be great!
If I could add a couple of tracks I think are awesome:
Joe Satriani - Summer Song
Joe Satriani - War
Brian May - Last Horizon ( have the Queen/Paul Rodgers live dvd and this is just beautiful)
ZZ Top - Rough Boy
Accept - Mistreated

Wow. A new fan! I'm glad you like them dowzer.
"Try Me" and "Love to Love" are actually both UFO songs from 1977's "Lights Out" album. You could try some of the following which are fabulous, but to be honest the 3 youtube clips I put are the cream of the crop for me.
"Built for Comfort " and "Lipstick Traces" [Phenomenon 1974]
"Belladonna" [No Heavy Petting 1976]
"Arbory Hill", "Lookin' out for No.1" and "One More for the Rodeo" [Obsession 1978]
Also, I can't recommend Michael's first 2 self titled albums highly enough. Called "The Michael Schenker Group" and "MSG", they have a lovely mix of "Lost Horizons" style epic guitar work [But I Want More, Never Trust a Stranger, Tales of Mystery] and also some fabulous melodic hard rock numbers.
Funkadelic - Maggot Brain, one of the classic laid back tracks that just oozes emotion.
My Favourite guitarist is Dave/David Gilmour (whatever he calls himself these days)
Atom Heart Mother is where I think he found the guitar voice he is most associated with.(1 minute into this video...)
A few of his finest moments

Another Schenker fan here & recently I've been listening a bit to Assault Attack; daft name for an album but some really good playing esp the solo on Samurai.
Another track that sticks in my memory (although can't remember the album name!) is Looking for Love, again a wonderful solo section. Great musician that Mr Schenker who I've had the pleasure of seeing live on numerous occasions.
