Just putting a new sub through it's paces. Movie LFE and artificial sweeps/tones aside, here are some musical tracks I've noticed have explicit, non-percussive, liver wobbling content...

Basement Jaxx - U Can't Stop Me
Avril Lavigne - Sk8ter Boi (1:51 is a very harsh sub test!!!)
Moloko - Absent Minded Friends
Royksopp - Poor Leno (intro)
Jennifer Lopez - Jenny From The Block (yuck)
Destiny's Child - Bills, Bills, Bills
Faithless - Baseball Cap

That list is right on the periphery of my normal taste in music and is the result of a very quick flick through my mp3 playlist. Not too much rock/funk/jazz stuff goes that low, although I notice some orchestral pieces w/classical bass drum hits are decent (they have a more natural soundstage than the above too).

Any more suggestions?

P.S. Eminem - Without Me

There's this bit at about 0:47 into the album version. Sweet Jesus, what the hell is going on there... a fart of some kind. =\

Prodigy's Fat of the Land has one of the largest frequency ranges on any non-test CD, so I'd assume there'd be some punishing stuff on that. Also, on U2's Actung Baby, Love is Blindness has some ridiculously low bass, which I've never heard on and system with out a sub bar one, which was using Montior Audio Studio 50's, which, if anyone remembers them, were huge. Try that one MuFu.

Yeah - you're right, some of the Prodigy stuff has a lot of LF content. More so the earlier albums though ("Charly" off The Prodigy Experience, for example) when they were using more synths. The later sh!t has more "in-yer-chest" mid-bass breakbeat which doesn't push the sub so much.

Amazing how many tracks have really low notes that I never noticed before, having previously played them on a crappy stereo when I was younger. Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy is an example...

The 8 Mile OST has some very serious basslines (and is really good to boot, even for a non-hip-hop guy like me).

Also the Fight Club OST, Propellerheads, Nine Inch Nails, Gorillaz, Mr. Scruff, Braveheart OST, Peter Gabriel's Up, Bjork, & even Enya have lots of good, deep bass.

About 2:38 into the trip into d'n'b mix of Charly most systems will go quiet (well my cans do, and a lot of cheap stuff) but a proper sub will go nuts.
Though there's just as much LF in the later works, just masked by more midrange content.
Special mention to Speedway on MFTJG.

Actually my favourite test of a subwoofer is the Aphex Twin Classics - awesome eardrum destroying stuff.

To be honest, alot of the stuff that has been mentioned is more mid-bass kinda range. I'm talking right down into the low 20s and beyond.

Ambient producers like Thomas Koner have kept me on a diet of pure sub bass for years. Many of his tracks are just frequency manipulation rather than "music". You won't find anything that goes deeper though - Teimo, Permafrost, Kaamos and Daikan being good examples of his sublime form of music.
Others off the top of my head would be Hazard, Biosphere, Megaptera, Scorn, Iron Halo Device....

If it's bass you're looking for then you need to dip your toe into dark ambient/industrial territory: Koner, or Sleep Research Facility are good places to start. SRF's album Nostromo will have your walls positively shaking like there's a quake going on. It's one of my favourites, though not, I suspect, my neighbours.

Plenty of deep bass on there, should give the sub a subtle workout.

Proper sub bass, unlike an awful lot of drum n' bass.

I used to own a pair of Cerwin-Vega! VS15's and a pair of DC12's and this album caused the built in oven in the kitchen to vibrate out of the cupboard a few inches until it came off the mounts at the back. It then fell backwards into the cupboard and made an almighty dent in the wall behind.

Mind you, it was pretty loud!

I've got Logical Progression, and that's pretty sweet. Got a lot of Dillinja and Roni Size stuff too which gets the job done.

LOL, I think I should have approached this thread from another angle. I wasn't really after tracks to work the sub out (!). I would have listed a bunch of ambient stuff, some DnB and RATM etc if that were the case (not Avril Lavigne and J-Lo!!!). If you notice from that original list, they are all pretty mainstream examples that you perhaps wouldn't expect to hit such low frequencies, the majority of which won't be reproduced audibly on Joe Public's system.

I guess I was just suprised at the things you miss without a sub hooked up.

Some good suggestions though, cheers - I am going to have no money left at all after I buy all these albums.

DB Jams, volume 5 - The official test disc of the DB drag racing association. Track 8 blows the cobwebs away nicely, and causes them to return as it blows your sub cone out.

Been listening to Massive Attack's 100th Window a fair bit lately. With the volume cranked, the bass on this album is seriously good - very deep, powerful, but really tight, fast and dynamic too (well, it is on my system anyway ). Makes for a very downbeat, claustrophobic, almost oppressive atmosphere to the music, which I really enjoy. And it gives your sub a real chance to shine.
