obscure stuff

As I delve deeper into the world of pre and post punk bands, I come across more and more obscure bands.....Mission to Burma, Minuteman, Half Japanese (Jad Fair), Daniel Johnston, The Slits, The Raincoats, Melvins etc...........not forgeting The Meat Puppets.
Husker du and Sugar in the slightly more mainstream.

Is any other forum member listening to this style of music ? Its punk, but not in the same way as The Pistols, its where Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam took their influence.

Where have these band members gone?

I have ended up getting a poster directly from Derrick Bostrom (The Meat Puppets Drummer), who runs the Puppets web site and replies to every single e.mail within a couple of hours how accesible is that

I think it's UK Horizons on cable, but there's a channel that runs a documentary series on "The Punk Years" on one of the cable channels. It's an excellent series covering all aspects of punk, pre and post, and touched on most if not all of the bands you mentioned. I'm not sure how many parts the series was in but it must have been around 10-20 as they covered so much material. I don't even like punk to any extent, but the programme was so well put together that it was always interesting. Loads of interview footage with people from bands like The Slits as they are now, and masses of live stuff, TV appearances, that kind of thing.
If it gets repeated (which being cable it's going to happen sooner rather than later) it's definitely one to watch, if you haven't seen it already.
