1970's Jazz Fusion...

Come on, I know you are out there...

I just wanted to share a site that I belated came across (no pun intended - it's not one of THOSE sites.

LINK REMOVED BY MOD

I 've already shared this with one member who I know likes Mahavishnu (almost as much as I do...)

The video clips page is essentially just a link to You Tube.

But check out the bootleg audio page... I nearly wet my pants.

The quality varies from good to poor soundboards to pretty good radio transmissions.

Mods - I presume it is OK to post this link as I am supposing that this stuff is all legal. If not, apologies...

Phil

Re: 1970's Jazz Fusion...

it doesn't look like the files hosted are legal so i've had to remove the link i'm afraid. i'm not sure how he managed to host the files for so long without any bother, but advertising the link in forums like this probably doesn't help it stay up. i'm presuming that as he mentions it's not for profit and specialised recordings with little to no chance of an official release that a blind eye is turned (plus the age of most recordings)

Oops - sorry for that! I had an inkling it might have been 'wrong' to advertise the link...

There's only me and about three or four others on here who would have listened anyway; still got me another couple of posts towards 1000!

Philly

What kind of stuff are/were you into? I loved all kinds of things from both sides of the Atlantic. I got into jazz in a round about way. A bit of Brubeck and then Paul Simon's Still Crazy After All these Years album. I started listening to the artists Simon used on that album and got into jazz/rock/fusion. Before long I was in to all manner of jazz. Gil Evans is my all time jazz great.

All the best

Re: 1970's Jazz Fusion...

Hi Brian

Well around 1975 ish when I was 14 I stared listening to Yes... Then I read an interview with Jon Anderson who said that they were inspired, amongst others, by the Mahavishnu Orchestra. What a strange name I thought; anyway, I went and bought a second hand copy of Birds Of Fire, and it blew me away. Then onto McLaughlin's inspirations - Miles, Coltrane etc, and I guess it just grew from there.
So lots of McCoy Tyner, Keith Jarrett, and some older stuff - Dizzy and Duke Ellington.

I was a real jazz snob in the late seventies, early eighties, but now I like a pretty wide range of stuff.
A bit like you - If I liked an album, I'd see who the sidemen where and go hear there own stuff. It could often lead in pretty unpredictable directions - especially some of the guys Zappa played with!
I guess I have a soft spot for the music which changed my way of listening, so that is why that site is like gold dust to me (and it is still working for me, by the way)

Phil

Philly

All my mates were into Yes so I saw them. I also saw Miles and McLaughlin. I'm also a pretty big fan of Jaco Pastorius and I saw him twice with Weather Report. Would have loved to see him when he toured Japan with Gil Evans. If you know of any where that has legal recordings of that tour I'd be forever gratful.

Regards

Re: 1970's Jazz Fusion...

Sorry to see the link got removed but I'm relly digging the site (just like you knew I would, Phil!). I'd have thought the jazz fusion site was perfectly fine, seeing as none of this was commercially released and the guy isn't making any money out of this.

Like the dodgy stuff I used to smoke whilst listening to jazz fusion...it's there to be shared!
