Cream Reunion Concert

I've just caught the 2005 Cream concert at the Royal Albert Hall on Sky Arts - first time I've seen it. Although I've bought some Clapton and Bruce albums over the years, this is the first time I've sat down and listened to the Cream stuff for at least 20 years. Clapton obviously put his contemporary style into the music, and Jack Bruce's voice doesn't seem to have the range it once had, I guess naturally, but Ginger Baker's drumming was an absolute revelation. His Toad solo as recored on Wheels of Fire is so burnt into my memory that I can almost taste it, and his Toad solo at the concert, while different, still had the energy, fluidity and tempo that I remember, plus perhaps more technical accuracy. And this from a guy who at the time must have been, what, 66? Simply stunning.

Re: Cream Reunion Concert

Yes very good indeed

I'm not a great Cream fan but I enjoyed this a lot, so much so I bought it on HD-DVD

The P/Q on the standard DVD is also very good indeed

Re: Cream Reunion Concert

Tbh I only saw this recently, at the end of last year, and I was stunned at how good they were. When you look at how some of their contemporaries struggle these days, and considering how little practise they had together, the show was very good indeed.

If the DVD is that good Kenny, I'll pick it up.

Thanks for the heads up Kenny.

Re: Cream Reunion Concert

I was there and it was quite an emotional night...

Haven't seen the DVD but perhaps I should pick it up at some point.

Does the recording show the lack of warmth between the three ? Respect, yes. Friendship, no.....

And Ginger was, for me, the stand out on the night - amazing for his (or any other) age.

Incidentally, we were offered £1000 each for our tickets outside the hall
