Thanks: Gave 16, Got 23 | Queen + Paul Rodgers Rock The Cosmos 2008 Concert Tour Tour heralds in first new Queen studio album in 13 Years
With a new album in the pipeline - the first new studio album to carry the Queen name since the Freddie Mercury sessions - Queen is heading back on the road for a four-month tour, once again in the company of musician/singer/songwriter Paul Rodgers who joined the band for the highly successful 2005/2006 world tour, the European leg of which ended with the band's spectacular London Hyde Park open air concert before going on to play the US and Japan.
Together Brian May, Roger Taylor and Paul Rodgers have recorded their first album's worth of material, jointly written and produced. With the title yet to be disclosed, the album is being readied for release September 1, two weeks ahead of the start of the tour.
The Queen + Paul Rodgers 28-date arena tour will take in 14 countries in just seven weeks and take the band to Northern Eurasia, Central and Southern Europe and the UK and is expected to wind up at the end of the year with the band's highly anticipated return to South America, the setting of some of its most historic tours in the early 80's.
Tracks on the new Queen + Paul Rodgers album will include "Say It's Not True", previously released at the end of last year by Queen + Paul Rodgers as a special World Aids Day download for Nelson Mandela's 46664 HIV AIDS charity, plus a 'first' for a Queen album - a cover version.
The remaining tracks are all newly written by May, Taylor and Rodgers during the late 2007/early 2008 recording sessions.
One of these tracks, C-lebrity, will receive a sneak preview when the band make a by-demand return to the UK's ITV Al Murray's Happy Hour for the final show on April 4.
Tickets for all UK dates will go on sale at venue box offices and usual
ticket agents from Saturday April 5.
Friday 10 October Nottingham Arena
Saturday 11 October Glasgow SE&CC
Monday 13 October London 02
Tuesday 14 October Cardiff Arena
Thursday 16 October Birmingham NIA
Saturday 18 October Liverpool Arena
I know the last tour had it's fair share of doubters but have to say I enjoyed the shows and it will be interesting to hear what the new material sounds like. Though I hope Say It's Not True is not typical. They've flogged that song to death.

Not Queen for me. Just a couple of members from the four piece with another group's singer.
Should never have been allowed to call themselves Queen. I fear poor old Fred's spinning in his grave.... |

Yep, they should really have called it a day at the Freddy tribute concert back in 1992(ish?) and continued to perform under a new name. Don't get me wrong, Rodgers is a cracking singer / frontman... but he's not Freddy |

If you want to see them , you can. Got my ticket for NIA. Was 14 during their last Uk tour and would have loved to see Freddy, but alas, never did.

I saw him with Queen on that tour and he is a class act - what a voice he has. Not many come close to that bluesy / rock voice he has!

You never know working with some quality musicians like May and Taylor may bring the best out of him!!
Cheers

In the early days DC was much more 'blusey' and mellow, and so was Whitesnake.
I must admit though, I never got into Coverdale's antics. All the microphone rubbing and caressing, and wangling it around like it was a willy extension. Sad, really sad. That switched me off, along with them sounding too 'note perfect' by the mid 80's, their live shows.
As you say, all that 'hair metal' stuff was guff. I'm not just talking about Whitesnake either...........

i am a huge Queen fan who was mostly drawn to them by the great Freddie Mercury, sadly i only got the bug in '86... just to late , since then i have all their uk stuff on vinyl, tape and cd (i got a bit carried away) so when Brian and Roger went on tour with pr at Manchester i has to go just to hear Queen stuff live but i know in my mind Queen died with Freddie , i have bought tickets for the Liverpool show but i am unsure if i am going, i still listen to alt of my Freddie vinyl..just not enough. PR has an ok voice, for me it doesn't suit Queen music but he must be sick of people saying "well he's no Freddie is he" but at the end of the day, he's no Freddie is he? Whilst at the show i did like the tracks that he sang that were his tracks...all right now and one i hadn't heard before "can't get enough of your love" i do think that the new music is money making under the guise of bringing queen music to new people otherwise IMO they would be called something quite different, sorry for the long rant but it's over now |
