Thanks: Gave 7, Got 28 | Whitesnake - Good To Be Bad
WOW!!!!! Just had a sneak listen to their new album due out next month and my jaw hit the floor........................
The 'Snake is back in true form. I can't recommend this album highly enough to any true rock fan out there. It's probably the best album Coverdale has done since 1987, and it's maybe just a bit better than that huge album!!! There's bits of 1987, Coverdale/Page and Doug Aldrich has really stamped his mark on the sound.
Can't wait to buy it

Don't think much of this - hasn't started to grow on me after 3 full blasts of the whole album unfortunately
- was hoping for more of his Coverdale Page type stuff or pre-1987 type blues, but this sounded like a third rate 1987, none of the passion, and all filler (I'll admit I feel 1987 also has a significant proportion of filler)

Just had my very first listen to it, from start to finish.
There is usually always at least one track on any new album that immediately grabs me, and the one that does it for me on this album is - Can You Hear The Wind Blow. I think this would be really good to hear live. All I Want All I Need, is a classic Whitesnake ballad, and i would expect this to be released as a single.
I am flicking through the whole album again right now, and quite a few of the songs are already starting to grow on me. Lay Down Your Love is a perfect example of this. This is quite a big song, and IMO, it has a strong connection with Still Of The Night
Good to see all the tracks, with one exception, are 5 minutes + in length.
Overall, i think this is a good Whitesnake album, and i will look forward to hearing some of it played live on June 17th.

A mixed bag in my opinion. It's generally a tight and hard album with flashes of greatness but it's lazy in places too. Here's my first listen review:
Best Years - a great rocking opener. 4/5
Can You Hear The Wind Blow - a cracking air guitar tune. 4/5
Call On Me - doesn't do much for me...it's all been heard before. 2/5
All I Want All I Need - a "by the numbers" ballad. poor. and coverdale sounds like he's 80 years old. [maybe he is]. 1/5
Good To Be Bad - nothing original but it's done with talent and manages to sound good. 3/5
All For Love - kinda boring. a filler. 2/5
Summer Rain - yawn. a ballad should have feeling [for goodness sake, if anyone knows this it should be W/S]... but this doesn't. fast forward it. 1/5
Lay Down Your Love - this is more like it. sure it's rip of Zep but it works. 4/5
A Fool In Love - this is whitesnake. it sounds like everything they have ever done put into one track. Is that a good or a bad thing...I'm not sure yet. 3/5
Got What You Need - hmm...whitesnake is AC/DC! 2/5
Till The End Of Time - a slow "unplugged" type ballady thing. love it or hate it? i love it. 4/5
Anyway it's sure whetted my appetite for the forthcoming tour with Leppard.

Just given it a listen and I'm with Krish on this, it just sounds like a poor rehash of another poor album (1987). It even sounds 1980's and has no either modern or classic influences. I was a huge Whitesnake fan in the late 70's & early 80's but this is a continuation of the run-of-the-mill stuff he did at the end of the 80's. DC sounds great but sings too many crappy songs but then thats the story of his career.
Big dissapointment
Bet my Mrs will love it

1987 will always be regarded as a major album for Whitesnake, by the majority of the fans, and the music industry.
Dont forget it was recorded by a completely different line up to the band that appeared in the videos and toured America with Motley Crue, with Whitesnake having the number one album at the time.

Yes , 1987 was a big comercial success and I did by the LP along with many millions of people but while it was OK sounding in 1987 it sounds very dated in 2008.

This is just what i didn't want to hear. Loved WS untill Slide it in which i just couldn't get into, bought 1987 and apart from Still of the Night never liked it and don't ever play it. From what i was led to believe this was back to Ready n willing territory but the few tracks i have heard on Planetrock did make me wonder. Very annoying as Restless Heart and Into the Light I like a lot. Just hope when i hear the whole album i will change my mind or maybe i'm getting too old.

I like this album, sure there are some Zepp and ACDC soundalikes in there, but that's no bad thing in my view

I enjoyed quite a few of the tracks on the album - the lyrics weren't quite as bad as usual and the band are very tight. However, I think out of the ex-purple members Jon Lord and Glenn Hughes have been producing much better work recently. Glenn's last few albums have been fantastic - much better than his music with purple where I thought he let the side down - his use of drugs during that period is well documented.
