Newton Faulkner

Went to see Newton Faulkner last night in Newcastle, what a great gig. The guy is an excellent all round entertainer, superb musician, great rapport with the crowd, and he writes great music. I have put a link in to a you tube video of him performing a song called "for gods sake". He plays a single acoustic guitar and yet manages to provide a very intricate melody, a bass drone (he even has to detune the bottom string when the tune drops a note, then retune it back again), and also a rhythm section by banging and tapping the body of the guitar. The banging of the guitar really gave the subwoofers a serious workout. There are no other musicians on stage with him during this song at all.

If you get the chance to catch him on tour, go for it, it was one of the most entertaining gigs I have been to for a long time.

Re: Newton Faulkner

Have to concur. Saw this guy last year at Somerset House, when he was supporting Bert Jansch. Superb live act, and comes across as a genuinely really nice, talented, guy.

Cool

that track reminds me of one of the tracks on Jeff Buckley's album Grace.

Re: Newton Faulkner

Thank you so much for posting the video, I was very impressed by "Handbuilt by Robots" and can't wait for anything he does. I love his cover of Tear Drop (unlike the cover Mika did who I believe should never be allowed in a recording studio ever again).

He was a pupil of Eric Roche at ACM Guilford. Check out Eric Roche playing Smells like Teen Spirt.
