Nothing there for me either I'm afraid. I wouldn't mind seeing Judas Priest if I had to. But I wouldn't go out of my way to see them tbh.

Why don't they just rename it to 'Emo'load. I thought they learnt their lesson last year when Chemical Romance got bombared almost to death.

It doesn't look good does it. But I suppose that's just a reflection of the state of current metal...or my age. I am so glad I grew up when I did - 1984 was a peach for Monsters of Rock and it was still going good up to the early 90s. Anyway, the only thing that would get me to Donington would be AC/DC [there is a persistant rumour that it could happen this year] 'cos my son's never seen them and I doubt they'll do a full UK tour ever again.

Looks like we're getting an 80's revival night with Kiss, Judas priest and motorhead on the same bill, are they playing the same day???

Have to say it's not looking good, i think Rock am ring would be a better bet at this rate.

They did indeed. In 81' they had AC/DC, Whitesnake, Blue Oyster Cult, and Slade. All of whom were either pretty huge at the time, still at least a 'big name', and not totally past it either. Even Slade knocked us dead, as although it was cheesy as hell, they really belted out the numbers and it was great fun. They certainly diverted the Hells Angels attention from setting fire to the toilets.........

I mean I love Priest, they were ace live, but that was nearly twenty years ago! As for Kiss...............

At least Motorhead have still got it, as Lemmy is pretty ageless. I mean who can tell whether his voice is shot or not? Even more, who'd have the balls to tell him?

Think I might go this year to see Kiss and in the vague hope that AC/DC will be the special guests.

Huge rock / metal fan me, but here's my take on it;

Headliners
The Offspring - Meh, take em or leave em - not what I'd class as a headline act mind...
Kiss - Top Draw! Thats what I'm talking about!!!!
Lostprophets - See Offspring comment

Others
HIM - errr, just no.....
Motorhead - Should be headlining, not playing second fiddle!
Judas Priest - Great band in their day, bit old hat now IMO
Rise Against - Who?

I used to love the MoR fests! Only went twice - first 94 : Aerosmith headline, first year with two stages - remember Biohazard (good), Pantera (EXCELLENT, so glad I got to see them before we lost Dime - RIP), Extreme (not into them at the time which was a shame), Sepultura (excellent) Slash's Snakepit (man is a god) and a few others, with Aerosmith being utterly SUPERB at the end of the night!

Then again in 95, Metallica headline (great show), along with Slayer (brutal!), White Zombie (trippy, but then I was "smoking" during their set lol), Skid Row (not really into them at the time, again, wish I had watched em more) and a few others (I was battered by the end of the night so I forget lol)

The only band I'd want to see form that lot is Rise Against, yet their hardly a crowd pulling band (as matt_c said.. who?... I like 'em though.)

Motorhead could be quite good too.

It does seem rather 'meh' on the whole though. Not that it matters I probably wouldn't have gone anyway no matter how good the lineup was, haven't been to a festival for a good few years.

So Judas Priest just over a year ago in Manchester

The energy they used to have as a band had gone, Scorpions on the same bill just blew them away

Re: Download '08

Nothing here for me either. Yes Judas Priest and Motorhead were good in their day but I'm wanting something new a fresh (and good!). I've never ever liked Kiss so they would be the least favourite on that list.

Re: Download '08

Download looks poo this year and I have had a look at the Wacken Open Air too and this doesn't look too exciting either. What we need is a combination of OzzFest, Wacken and Dowload (and old-school Monsters of Rock) bands.

This would be my ideal Download:

AC/DC
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
Megadeth
Metallica
Napalm Death

Cradle of Filth
Cannibal Corpse
Anthrax
Slayer
Black Sabbath (original line-up)
and perhaps some extreme metal band (Emperor/Mayhem/ etc.)

I love how you put Megadeath on the bill above Metallica...quite right too .

Re: Download '08

The line ups just keep getting worse every year! Its either classic rock or trendy emo bands!

What happened to Tool, Metallica, Deftones, Opeth???

Im gonna do my best to go to Rock Am Ring this year. Dimmu Borgir, Metallica & a little band called Rage Against the Machine!!!
