Are these formats on the way to extinction? I am presuming that what you find on Amazon is basically all that is available to date in these 2 formats.
Anyone knows what Rambient and Venice Underground sound like? |
There is a better selection if you go to the US websites, some of which have been posted here before (so do a search as it's quicker than waiting for us to get into gear

), and you might be surprised how many you can find.
However, hi-res is indeed dead in the water. The problem from the start was that they a) chose to release them right at the real take-off point for music downloads, and in age were quantity reigns, it wasn't the best of times to do it, b) they went for re-releases first, then as an afterthought tried to get current artists to release on hi-res.
The former meant they were swimming against the tide from the off, and added to the latter, that the majority of artists weren't willing to take the risk of investing in releasing on hi-res rather than just CD.
As with HD-CD the public also just didn't see the need (bar us hifi nuts, and were are a small minority of the 'music replay' buying public) for a new digital medium.
