Qtrax

Any thoughts on Qtrax?

I'm not sure at this point if its global, but its basically a legal P2P with the catch that you view advertising through the browser/player.

Not really legal...

I had to read quite a bit into it to make sure, it did sound too good to be true! Seems to be exactly the same as illegal P2P, without the need for a separate program to do it in, just making it easier to share illegal files from the sounds of it.

Re: Qtrax

I heard a bit about this on the radio today, apparently they said they had the backing of most of the major labels when in fact they had none?

Re: Qtrax

Yes, I read the news that they've jumped the gun a little by announcing major backing, when in fact there is none yet

The site is hard to read and found more detailed information via news sites than their own site, I'll avoid for now me thinks..

Exactly, jumping the gun 100%.

They say that they will get revenue for advertising. how? where?

Apart from on the actual site, where else on the mp3 itself ??

Re: Qtrax

I'm pretty sure I remember the "Gnutella" networks being used to distribute pirated music and software waaaay before this QTrax thing came up.

Coincidence? I think not

People need to realise that it is the repeated production of sub-par, conveyor belt, talentless music that is hurting the music industry. Sure there were crap records years ago, but people still had to buy the record to find that out. The sooner the industry realises this, the sooner everyone will be happy.

Trying to latch onto software notoriously used by pirates, but doing it really badly, and often sneakily, isn't going to win anybody round. There is a p2p system in place, and it works. The industry can't even get it's own business right (making good music), what possible chance does it have of launching decent p2p services that can rival bittorrent?!
