DefLeppard/Whitesnake

Def Leppard and Whitesnake have just announced a co-headlining UK arena tour for June.
I have seen both bands approx. 5 times individually, but havent seen the Lep's for quite a few years,so this is one that i definitely do not want to miss.
This has every chance of being the biggest UK tour of 2008.
There is also a support band on all dates - Black Stone Cherry.

See you all in Glasgow.

Def Leppard are also set to release a brand new studio album in mid 2008. The album will see the band adding to their incredible legacy and promises the inclusion of a very special collaboration.
Since this was on the whitesnake.com page, I wonder if that means Coverdale's a guest vocalist, working with Vivian again after firing him almost 20 years ago. A pity that the latest Whitesnake lineup has no other members from his successful years.

Yeah...i read that too,and thought the same thing.
I never actually seen Vivian Campbell with Whitesnake,he had just been replaced by Steve Vai at the time.

Re: DefLeppard/Whitesnake

Did Glen Hughes ever appear live with Coverdale around that time?
... since he did backing vocals on Now You're Gone - would have been good to see the two of them together for that and some classic Purple

I hope the 6 unreleased Coverdale Page tracks finally see the light of day (should really have been put on a re-issue of the album) ... haven't found them lurking in cyberspace yet

Never realy a fan of either of those two, but could be tempted by throwing Black Stone Cherry into the mix. Those guys are superb. If you go, make sure you get there early enough to see BSC.

Re: DefLeppard/Whitesnake

Saw Whitesnake a few times and the tight trousered one was his usual prat of a self each time........... I found them too clinical for me. I like a live act to 'stray' a little, and while the 'classic' Whitesnake was a great band individually, it was too 'polished' for me. Never saw the later line-ups. Def Leppard, to be fair, were really great when I saw them, but that was in the pre 'Hysteria' days.

Would rather, on current form, see Black Stone Cherry.

Re: DefLeppard/Whitesnake

Purely an observation if i may.....

Ive noticed that it seems to be fashionable these days to put down established bands, and favour new,up and coming ones(absolutely nothing wrong with supporting new bands though).
In the same vein...it also seems to be fashionable to hark back to the old days of bands.

Can i just say...i am not a follower of fashion,i have always known exactly what i like, and this will never change.

As i said..this is purely an observation...i am not trying to ruffle anyones feathers.

Its in the public domain,so i dont see any harm in stating it here - snakebite.
But remember, this password is only for use when asked for the Whitesnake fan club code, not Def Leppard's.

Re: DefLeppard/Whitesnake

I am very surprised to find out that the Glasgow gig is going to be held in the all standing Hall 3 of the SECC. The normal hall for big events in the SECC is Hall 4 because it is the largest and holds the maximum amount of people,so i naturally assumed that 2 rock bands of this stature on the same bill, would command the largest hall.

If this really is a co-headlining tour in the UK,then you would expect them to take turns at going on last for each gig,so i wonder if this will happen. The only reason i say this,is because from what ive seen,Def Leppard are getting promoted first(maybe just an alphabetical order thing). Doesnt matter to me though...i love both bands equally, and have my tickets now.

Mindcrime,
You mentioned about them bringing this tour "across the pond",well this UK leg is part of an ongoing world tour by Def Leppard, who have 4 dates in Canada in April, supported by Styx and REO Speedwagon.

I quite agree.
RATT,is one band i would have really loved to see at their peak back in the 80's.
I have seen Poison twice though.

I noticed this too and am disappointed it's all standing too - my wife's not too tall and couldn't see anything at the Alice Cooper gig in hall 4 recently.

I've done a bit of searching and found out the following capacities for hall 3 and hall 4:

Hall 3 - standing 5,852 \ seated and standing 4,656
Hall 4 - standing 10,000 \ seated and standing 10,103 [?]

It does seem strange that they reckon there be only 5,000 or so in Scotland and yet they have booked 2 days at each of Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield and London.

Thanks for that info kherm,it confirms my original thought....and i agree,it does seem very strange indeed. I cannot believe the Glasgow gig will sell less than 6 thousand tickets...surely not????

It is possible though, due to a high demand for tickets, they could switch it to hall 4(obviously depending on availability)...it has happened before. By coincidence, the last time i personally know of this happening, was for the Alice Cooper/Twisted Sister gig back in 2005 - was originally booked for the Armadillo, but got switched to hall 4 all seated, due to a high demand for tickets.

Concerning hall 4 when it is standing and tiered seating,i decided long ago that you get the best unobstructed view of the stage,if you are mid-way up Block H or J.
As far as im concerned, the only location that beats this view,is standing at the very front....but that can be a very uncomfortable place to be.

I watched RATT at Donnie in 84 i think. Wasn't impressed.

My only claim to any fame at all is I know Danny from Tyketto, now playing with the Illegal Eagles, and he can still sing.

edit

Talked about it with my brother tonight, it was 1985 we went....Magnum, RATT, Metallica, Bon Jovi, Marillion, ZZ Top. Great day, apart from RATT. Marillion blew the rest away on the day.

I ordered tickets for Belfast yesterday, but I'm just curious as to how these co-headline shows work. Specifically, how long Def Leppard and Whitesnake will perform on the night ?! 2 hours each ??

I will let you know exactly how long they play after ive been to the gig - Glasgow is first date on the tour.
You would expect them to have equal playing time, but i cant see it being as much as 2 hours each, because that would mean the finishing time would be after midnight.
What im wondering about,as i said earlier, will they be taking turns at going on last on each night? If they do....i wonder if this means the band to go on last on the night, will have a slightly longer playing time?

Re: Def Leppard/Whitesnake

Have just received a letter from the SECC, informing me of a change to the door, and concert starting time.
Doors open at 6pm, for a starting time of 6.50pm.

This is approx. 1 hour earlier than normal, so its obviously designed to allow both main bands to play for an equal amount of time, while still keeping the finishing time the same..

I would expect all dates on the tour to have a similar, earlier starting time.

Yep, i did.
It was in Glasgow, on the "7 Day Weekend Tour", which i believe was in the summer of 92, although it might have been 93, i'm not entirely sure.
This was the last of the really big UK tours that they done.
It was a different experience, and i really enjoyed it.
