The Blues - recommend me some artists to try

A few years ago I really got into the music of J.J. Cale - you know that laid-back blues kinda stuff. Bit of slide guitar.

Any blues fans out there care to recommmend other artists of the same ilk that I may like.

Re: The Blues - recommend me some artists to try

Slide guitar I would suggest the majestic Muddy Waters though I wouldnt say the same ilk, but everyones gotta love muddy.

Also I would suggest the obvious ones Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, John Lee Hooker, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin Wolf etc

Re: The Blues - recommend me some artists to try

I guess it's a bit modern for some tastes, but Eric Claptons 'Me and Mr Johnson' is worth a look, imho....

Re: The Blues - recommend me some artists to try

For slide guitar I would recommend Elmore James from the old days and Ry Cooder from modern era.

One of my favorite albums of all time is An Evening With Big Bill Broonzy acoustic blues doesn't come any better IMO.

Re: The Blues - recommend me some artists to try

Dire Straits' original self-titled album is what I'd call "blues rock."

With two Knopflers playing guitar, it's full of rhythm & lead guitar excellence. Electrics, acoustics, resonator played with a slide - awesome

Re: The Blues - recommend me some artists to try

A bit off topic as the OP was after laid back blues but some modern blues bands are The White Stripes and The Black Keys. They do a nice job of taking the music forward.
