The Twang, Yay or Nay?

I get the feeling that The Twang are a bit of a Marmite band.

Personally I absolutely love em and their album is the first one I've heard in a long time where I enjoy every single track.

I like the fact that they sing in their local accent and that their songwriting is just pretty much regular inner city young bloke. There's no pretentiousness there, just good solid honest music.

So if you hate them why and if you love em why?

Cheers, Dave.

Nay

all the tracks I've heard sound like the same idea re-hashed over and over, and sound like a major lack of effort is put into them resulting in a very shoddy end product

only band I really appreciate doing the whole accent thing and the one's i believe started this whole trend unintentionally are the Arctic Monkeys, over 2 albums + 1 EP I've not come across a song I don't wholeheartedly enjoy .

I like them too, anyone who can harmonise in a Brummie accent is genius

Re: The Twang, Yay or Nay?

Hate, and I mean really despise, the Twang.

At the risk of sounding extremely snobbish, this is artless and inarticulate working class music.

I see absolutely no comparison between the Twang and Arctic Monkeys (a band I love), as the latter fuse witty and clever lyrics with dynamic, well crafted music whereas the Twang have been hawking the same set of mawkish pub-rock tunes round the Midlands scene for years, followed by their loutish and often violent fans. They were never destined to be big, they were never supposed to be this big and I think that the band themselves have been the most surprised that they have been hailed as the Next Big Thing.

I love Birmingham and there are some great bands to have come from this part of the country (Editors for example), but the Twang are not a great band and do not deserve the success that they have had.
