AV Forums top 100 2002

Hi

I don't know if this has been done (quickly searching suggested not), but I thought it might be kinda fun . . .

With all the radio stations and TV Music channels doing their top 50 - 500s I thought we might compile our own and get a "real" impression of what the top 100 favourite songs is. So here's what I would like you lot to do:

Post a reply (or PM me) - there's no need to quote this post, simply listing your personal five favourite tracks, with Artist, Song and possibly version on.

Around the 5th January I will compile all the results, try and build a chart that we can understand and post it on my website so we can see the results.

In fact, the PM method might be better, then no-one can see what anyone else is voting for (any thoughts)?

Collin

top favourite albums might be easier, but it needs a time scale, such as this year , last 10 years etc. Dont mind if its PM or otherwise. Just ensure SG doesnt put extra votes in for Will Young

Ok, let's go for top 100 albums and a separate chart for singles since 1980 'cos that's when I got old enough to understand music!

Only the first vote by PM or otherwise will be accepted! Any further votes will be discarded!

it will be white stripes 1st, 2nd and third then. Does that provide a modicum of motivation

Top 5 albums of all time would be tough for me. I had a stab on another thread a few months ago and ended up listing about 20 from what I can remember, and that was just for British artists

Top 5 for this year, I can deal with

Karkus. Tell him mate

You don't even get compilation albums in the charts anymore - they had to give them a separate chart 'cause they clogged everything up. Such polls are about glorifying the artists for writing/singing, i.e. outputting, the best material. A compilation CD doesn't do that because it's a bunch of artists

Be ruthless, I was. Just thought what albums have I played the most and would happily listen too over and over again.

Cant do the singles thing, as I never really listen to the charts, as most of the music played on the radio is s*t.

I was glad to hear on the news last night, that the latest manufactured girl band is no longer selling as well as expected and the record companies have been worried about the turn down in sales in this market.

Might start getting some decent stuff in the charts in the future, yet the young uns develop a proper taste in music.

That applies to most of what I own mate. I rotate them. There are a few I listen to once a year, but not many

If we're doing of all time, then I guess I'll have to abstain

Id have to abstain from "of all time", but from the 80s is alright. Im quite happy to do album of 2003, though as a seperate poll, if it gives you the feeling that you have contributed

Don't see why they wouldn't be allowed.

If it's only from 1980 onwards, I am sure that most of it will be sh*t anyway as there has been very little decent music produced since the seventies

best album of 2002 was released on the 10th of Jan-

Morning View by the might Incubus

The best of the rest:

QOTSA- songs for the deaf
Foo Fighters- all my life
The Strokes- Is This It?

and I'm pushed into putting the Strokes on there, really. Spent most of this year going back to grass-roots with Jimmy Hendrix, Bad company/Free, Thin Lizzy etc. Been a bit boring for the new stuff- BRMC, the vines, etc have all been done before, better. Thanks to Incubus and the Foo's I was saved a boring year all together (yes, SG, I know Coldplay released a new CD but I don't rate them too much )

Having set the challenge, I thought I'd better come up with my own top 5! So . . .

1. Dire Straits - Love Over Gold
2. Alanis Morisette - Jagged Little Pill
3. Reba McEntire - Read My Mind
4. Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet
5. Roxette - Tourism

Yeah, I know that the Roxette album is a "kind of" compilation, but it's got some of the best versions of their songs on and I much prefer it to the other three.
