Metallica to release the Wembley show MP3 on Saturday

I know quite a few forum members went to see them at Wembley and may be interested in this. Live Metallica are going to be releasing the remaining shows from the Sick Of the Studio tour starting with Wembley on Saturday!!!!! I can't wait to hear this bring back all those memories.

" July 18, 2007: The "Sick of the Studio" tour is now officially over . . . we had a blast on our European summer vacation! We know you're waiting for the second half of the tour’s shows and again, our apologies for slowing down here. But the good news is that everyone goes home tomorrow, and you'll see a lot of action this weekend . . . look for Wembley sometime on Saturday, the rest of the tour by early next week. Thanks for your patience!

Cant wait to hear "The Memory Remains" again...just thinking about that gives me goosbumps

Problem with Metallica releasing their shows on MP3 is the recordings are taken directly from the soundesk and thus don't have ANY crowd noise at all! So "The Memory Remains" will just have a LONG silence after it where the crowd should be singing Marrianne Faithfull's part!

Still, I'll probably get it anyway

The newer recordings have better crowd noise in, i havent heard any from this year, but from the tour last year they were a lot better.

I think you will find there will be the crowd noise for Memory remians as the crowd noise normally has it's own channel on the mixing desk allowing them to drop it in or out as they want to.

The crowd sounds great only listened to Creeping death but its really clear.

After listening to Master Of Puppets on the way into work tonight I've been getting an itching for 'tallica. I always thought they were a premier 'live' band but at the time Live Sh*t, Binge And Purge came out I wasn't financially flush enough to get it (and I'm still not!).

Now I see this LiveMetallica site and I think it's an excellent thing to do for the fans (I wish Genesis had done this instead of chucking all the concerts of their latest tour in a big box and charging the inevitable extra dosh for the packaging). My favourite period of their music, though, is totally free, I see. It's all on MP3, I notice. Now, does the MP3 format mean there are gaps between each of the songs?

Yeah unfortunatley there are gaps, but i think you could get rid of them by using software perhaps???

Flac is a higher quality audio format the tracks are encoded at a higher rate where MP3 is compressed FLAC is lossless higher bit rate but bigger file size. And if you want to burn a FLAC CD you have to convert the tracks to WAV i think??? You need plug ins i beleive to be able to play them, i believe thats how they work but i may be wrong.

I got hold of one of the free shows last night, the Giants Stadium gig from '92. Blimey that crowd are loud. Are they all sourced from soundboard mixes? At times, this one sounded like a very good audience recording.

I don't mind the sound of the audience at all, though, it really adds to the atmosphere.

Bit disappointed that Ecstasy Of Gold was not featured as an opening track; it's such a strong piece of intro music and now I can't hear it without thinking of Metallica. Great performance, though, from what I've heard so far.

Its a shame that ecstasy of gold isn't on there but they can't include it beacuse, they would probably have to pay royalties etc.. They haven't put it on any of the shows from 2004, 2006 and 2007. You could alwys add it yourself i suppose.

Yeah, see what you mean (having said that they're minted I'm sure it wouldn't hit them to pay royalties to Morricone). I did consider the idea of adding it myself but I doubt it would flow so well.

Do you have the Live Sh*t, Binge and Purge set, Timus? Is it included on any of the shows there?

Just listening to the show from Hammersmith '86. I figured I'd grab all the free stuff first and then consider which shows I want to pay for. Any recommendations?

Yeah i have the live **** set havent watched it for a long time though. The Cunning Stunts DVD they haven't got Ecstasy on. The only one that does have it on is the S&M concert and that was because the orchestra played it.

If you serach on Itunes Metallica have done a cover version of the Ecstasy Of Gold they recorded a version for a tribute album to the man who wrote it. Enino Morricone.

I looked into this when I saw it advertised but it's pants, not as good as the the original used before the shows.

I have a couple of bootlegs at home I'll check if they have Ecstasy on them and then add that just to make the Wembley show perfect from start to finish.

Just downloaded and listened to the Denmark show that's now free as it's only the second part of the show due to power failures.

Is the Wembley show as good?

I think i'll end up getting it just don't know which version. One things for sure Metallica are one band being sensible, whole concerts free etc, must cut down on crap bootlegs whilst increasing revenue. I wouldn't have even contemplated buying a live show from any site without hearing, but after three of the free shows i will.

Do any other bands offer whole shows free?

I'm suprised more bands haven't followed this line as well. If you think there was approx 50k people at wembley, if only a quarter download the show that is £62.5k (12.5k people x £5), even if you take of the cost of production and the site that leaves a nice healthy profit.

The free old shows are also a clever way to get people into the live shows so that they then pay to download one.

I am suprised that more bands don't do this i think its great. For £5 its bloody good value plus you can print out booklets and inserts to really finish it off.
