Thanks: Gave 189, Got 178 | Anyone listening to 'Icky Thump'?
Dumb title - great album
The White Stripes - the current 'Marmite' group of the moment.
Jack White seems to have picked Led Zep as his current fave influence - which draws no complaints from me. It makes a refreshing change from so much overproduced stuff these days to hear a band sound so raw and vibrant.
Can't wait to see them in October.
Let the backlash begin ( Overkill )

Let the backlash begin ( Overkill ) | Zep has always been the White Stripes influence. I really liked them up to White Blood Cells which is a great album IMO, but later albums just seemed to lose something.

Only got Elephant, which I enjoyed, and only listened a little to 'Get behind me Satan'.
But this becoming a real grower. Reminds me soooooo much of Zep's Physical Graffiti - but a bit wackier. Bone crushing riffs sitting alongside lighter folksy stuff.

Finding it a bit more difficult to get into than the last few albums but know it will just get better and better as all great albums should.
Missed the Raconteurs on tour but a great album.
White Stripes at Ally Pally and as special guest with Jeff Beck at the Royal Festival Hall were astounding. Hi ho Silver Lining seems so much better now......

Does anyone know a good place to get the LP? Both Amazon and HMV have it for £13 but I was hoping to get it for around £10 like I did with their other albums.
Also, does anyone know if there is a coloured version? As it is a double LP, two different colours would be good like with Elephant (one red and one white).

i hate the fact that the cd has been mastered too loud. the sound has digital distortion all over it. theres a real nasty digital crackle everytime something loud happens. they have compressed it so much the dynamics start to get lost.
it annoys the hell out of me cos its a great album. |

I got the LP and it sounds fantastic (and better than the CD which isn't unusual).

What did annoy me is who bright spark decided to put red stickers on the album. My one was on the edge and stopped the records coming out. Also, it is not possible to take it off without ruining the cardboard. I slit the sticker in half.
I would have liked to got the US version as it is on heavyweight 180gm vinyl but it was twice the price. |
