"Compact Disc Digital Audio"

Idle curiosity question basically:

Recent CDs I've bought don't have the "Compact Disc" logo on the disk or casing - I know some record labels stopped putting them on because of "enhancements" (read Copy Protection") which meant they weren't to the red book standard. As far as I can see the ones I've bought aren't protected (they play OK in a PC), so is it just that the record labels just don't bother now?

Re: "Compact Disc Digital Audio"

the 20 year patent that Philips & Sony enjoyed has now ran its course, that's why they tried with SACD as a rival to DVD-A

can i add to this has anyone noticed in the supermarkets, Ive see they revamped a lot of classic albums & Greatest hits. Packaging them in cardboard sleeves For a £5. Dad bought Stevie wonder love songs. As his was damaged. When he got the shrink wrap of. We all noticed not only had they cut down on the packaging But the actual CD compared to the original which we have to compare it to was Thin and flimsy as paper. It sounds ok thats all that counts. Anyone notice how the insert case of a plastic Cd holder CD retainer seem to disintegrate after you even carefully removed and put back the CD a few times. Bits of plastic rattling in the case. Cd lose..

Everything so crappy made.

I agree, I've now given up replacing the plastic inlays or the front covers. It seems that no matter how carfull you are the centers either start falling apart or the discs become loose and are not held in properely, and everytime i drop a case one or both of the front edges snap off. I've got just over 1000 cd's and i have now given up constantly buying replacement boxes, I prefer the cardbord 'replica' type album covers.
