Its usually a sort of carboardy, gatefold style pack and the CD tucks into either a leaf like an LP or sits on a standard CD support. Its not as robust as a jewel case.

CD's normally come in the tacky 'crystal boxes' that are your bog standard since the dawn of the CD age. Now they can come in two new flavours. The new DVD-A type case hinged top and bottom with rounded edges, and the digi-pak. The latter also comes in two flavours (just to confuse), with some being a standard case with a carboard sleeve over it, while the 'proper' digi-pak is a carboard case, usually folding out, with the CD in the middle section.

Hope that helps.
