Trying to identify artist

Hi,

This could be a hard one this.

Saw a TV advert last night which was recorded along with Dresden files on Sky 1. There was an advert for a new CD from an artist I'd never heard of, single female vocalist. When I first heard it she reminded me of Bjork, a little bit quirky. I looked it up quickly on iTunes and she was in the folk category (this is on iTunes she might not be classed as folk) and I noticed she had quite a big back catalogue (6+ albums on quick look so not just a one hit wonder).

She was singing as a name not a band, so, something like 'andrew taylor' rather than 'the fabulous 5' or whatever. Her name looked a bit quirky as well, so it wasn't something ordinary like 'norah jones' for example, she could have been swedish/norweigien.

I'm desperate to track it down, I was really enjoying the iTunes samples but my battery died and there's no history function.

Anyone got any clues?

Thanks, I know it was a really bland description.

Andrew

Re: Trying to identify artist

Just thought I'd pre-empt some of the suggestions, it isn't any of the following:

Vanessa Carlton
Bjork
Dido
Norah Jones
Lilly Allen
Amy Winehouse
Beady Belle
KT Tunstall
Katie Melua

Hi,

It's not Stina, - but you my man are on the right track, change the guitars for a piano and we're golden.

Re: Trying to identify artist

This is a brilliant way of finding new artists. Loving Cat Power, she's not the person but she's great.

Thanks

Re: Trying to identify artist

Maybe a bit obvious but is it Tori Amos? She's not scandanavian but does have a new album out soon.

Regina Spektor

Russion born - American.

Wonderful, at least I've found some new music to listen to. Thanks.

Re: Trying to identify artist

Didn't see the advert but i was going to mention Regina.
The album 'Begin To Hope' is stunning.
As you say, she was born in Moscow and grew up in New York (i think she may have supported the Strokes at some point)
Highly recommended

fan too of both Bjork and Regina, though my fave for the last 6 months or so though is this young lady - Emiliana Torrini, have a listen to her last album Fisherman's Woman, hauntingly beautiful music to chill to.
