Cd Cataloging software?

Can someone recommend some CD catalogue software? I'm getting to the stage now where I can't remember what CDs I have. Something that does an online detail check (like DVD profiler) would be good.

I did try 'search' but couldn't find anything. And google has 1000's- how work out which is good and which is rubbish?

Thanks

Please move this to another section if needed.

Re: Cd Cataloging software?

As you say there's lots. Have a look at Music Library (www.wensoftware.com) or Music Collector (www.collectorz.com). Both offer trial versions.

Re: Cd Cataloging software?

I've used Music Collector and MP3 Collector from www.collectorz.com. Very easy to use; recommended.

Re: Cd Cataloging software?

Its more extensive, but Rockrom is pretty good. It is a database for every bit of software, LP, CD etc not just CD, and it's based on the old 'rock record' books. It has an extensive list of albums and you just add what you have to your own selection. It's probably more useful for old farts like me with a lot of LP's and fairly obscure titles that the newer databases don't have.

Re: Cd Cataloging software?

Cheers for the suggestions. I have a look and see what works for me.

Are any of them web enabled - i.e. you can save a web based version of your collection (list)?

Edit:

Music Collector had a tidier front end but didn't recognise any of my CDs.
Music Library's UI is a bit confusing but reads all the disc info very quickly (when it decides it wants to) so that gets my vote (sort of).

Thanks again

Re: Cd Cataloging software?

I can recommend catraxx. You put your CDs in your CD drive and it looks up the detail from an online database (CDDB...same as the one iTunes uses I think). It has some built in reports (including html) but you can build your own too.

I think the demo allows full functionality but limited to 50 cds or thereabouts.

Re: Cd Cataloging software?

Cheers I'll give it a try. The other two do much the same but both have problems reading cd rips even though the freedb info is there (I checked with another program). It thought 10 different CDs were Haryy Potter...

Well, Catraxx hasn't failed with any of my 1000+ CDs and I've got the obscure album here and there.

Let us know how you get on with it. Be interested to know...

Re: Cd Cataloging software?

At the moment I'm hating it.

Surely the number one feature should be a big button called "find and scan the CD just put in the CD drive"?

Do none of these "companies" do UI testing?

It's not looking at the correct drive letter and I can't see anywhere to change it.

edit: deleted the default DB and started fresh. worked "ok".

Of the 3, music collector is easily the worst. Will try the other 2 again.

Re: Cd Cataloging software?

Hmm. Not sure about changing your drive letter. Mine's not standard (F) but I can't recall having any real problems with it.

You probably know this, but to scan CDs, you need to select "Tools->Download from CDDB" and from the resulting window, enable 'Auto Scan' from the Options menu and change the 'Auto Scan Interval' to the minimum (1 second). Pop in a CD, it gets scanned and out it pops again. And repeat for however many CDs you've got to hand and once you're done, select 'Download' from the 'File' menu to retrieve the relevant info for all the CDs you've scanned...alter any info you're not happy with and then 'transfer' to your library proper.

I find it works quite well. I've scanned 1200 CDs anyway, with no problems.

Re: Cd Cataloging software?

I had a few CDs that catraxx mis-identified. I'm now trying CD Storage Master Pro.
