Thoughts on the new band please

The band is Thinking For Tuesday and we have been together since November 2006. Last night we had our debut gig and we got some video and audio that is on the web site.

We would appreciate all your thoughts on the songs.

A few disclaimers:

The Venue is a concrete box (its called the cellar bar for a reason) and is hard to get the best levels. (It was worse actually being there)

It was hard to hear each other so we may not be as tight as we would have liked. However it did also come down to some nerves.

It was our first gig as a band and the first time 2 of the guys had ever been in a band.

That said please let us know your honest opinion

Re: Thoughts on the new band please

Had a listen, not really my thing to be honest. Well done on getting a gig though, being in a band is good.

Listening to the track there is something very wrong at 0.40 seconds.

Yea thats me.......
I was to busy thinking rather than doing on a pedal change and forgot to my hand in the right place So I am just enough out to be really nasty.

Thanks for the honesty like I say want all opinions (and when we have a better track) will upload that as well.

This track was the sample the sound guy sent and frankly was not the hottest one we did. So hope the others sound better. (No where near perfect but better)

Thanks again.

I would like to know from the people that post are you in bands/play? or do you just enjoy music?

Re: Thoughts on the new band please

Had a listen, very good mate, singer has a good voice, drummer is also very good. Only thing I would say is the fuzzed guitar sounds very "boxy" ie sounds like a pretty small amp miked up to the desk, could do with being more upfront. If the amp has the ability to DI to the desk (or you could get a DI box) it would give you more control over the sound coming out of the PA and you would be able to get rid of the boxyness. Dont ever worry about mistakes, I work with a band whose members (aged from 30 to 60) are all very experienced musicians, and they quite often hit bum notes. Your band seems quite tight and the more you play together the tighter you get. Best of luck to you mate.

Thanks, very constructive.
This was recorded at the Cellar bar in Bracknell and the guy Miked up both guitar amps. Mine is the wooley sounding one. (Laney VC 50) and the other is a Mesa Boogie Stilleto amp.

(not small amps lol)

I just think the venue sound was not the best. Very low ceilings so you cant turn up too loud as it gets very trebbly to quickly so I had cut out the mid and treble and I think it suffered, but the Laney is a VERY treble type amp so you don;t want to kill people

Thanks for the comments.

I will let you know when we get the CD and then get it on the web site so you can hear some of the better songs we play.

Re: Thoughts on the new band please

I think it is your guitar that I was referring to, I think you are right about the adjustments forced on you. I was listening to the MP3 rather than the videos, as I presume your soundman was taking a feed from the desk and this gives a much better idea of the sound than a video. He also did a very good job of mixing, excellent balanced sound. Vocals sound really clear, you can tell that even from the video. I know what a nightmare some venues can be for getting a decent sound, and from your description of the venue, he certainly knows his stuff.
The guitarist in the band I work for uses a Yamaha semi acoustic through a Fishman amp which DI's to the desk, so he is basically using his amp for a monitor, while I can shape his sound from the front. The only effect he uses is a little bit of reverb. I would definitely try to DI your guitar, looking at the manual on the internet, I cant see a balanced DI socket on the Laney, but try and get hold of a DI box and try it at a rehearsal or soudcheck.

To be honest when we get the sound right we don't need the DI as we are playing small enough venues that the amp fills that and the PA does not have the capacity to take that as well as the singing but I agree that if we get bigger venues you can control a lot more with the Sound guy if you DI the amps.

Thanks Tom

Re: Thoughts on the new band please

Not bad at all. In fact I enjoyed it.
I've heard much worse on MTV etc.
The vocalist sounds really good.
I'd listen in to more.

I wanted to listen to the band but can't access the video.

I got to the website and clicked everything in sight (one at a time) but nothing happened. Please tell me what to do, in simple language

Re: Thoughts on the new band please

Well the videos are on Youtube so it streams (depending on your connection) can be slow.

If you go to the media player on our site. (Media > Music tabs) then we have a track there to listen to as well.

(If you still can't PM me you email and I will send it to you)
