Question Trupet music at beginning of Radio 4 'Book of the week'

Listening this morning (Thursday) to the book of the week on Radio 4, trumpet music is played at the beginning.

Any idea who the artist and title of the track is?

If you know your trumpet music (I've heard it before so it is a well known one) you can listen to it on Radio 4s website at:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4

If you do a search for 'book of the week' (any day will do) you will hear the music.

Thanks

It's not a trumpet, it's an alto saxophone played by Paul Desmond of the Dave Brubeck Quartet. The sond is called Take Five, and will be on just about any Dave Brubeck collection.

Can you recommend a 'best of' and a cd that has a good quality recording.
There are so many to choose from, and do I go for a cd by Paul Desmond or Dave Brubeck Quartet!

Or even better, is there a 5.1 dvd available?

I'm thinking of getting 'Time out'?

thanks again.

Re: Trupet music at beginning of Radio 4 'Book of the week'

Well, I'm sorry but I can't!!

I don't think that there is a 5./1 remix with Take Five on it.

I would probably just get the original album from 1959 - Time Out

http://www.play.com/Music/CD/4-/1683...t/Product.html

It's produced by Teo Macero who also did Miles Davis' Kind of Blue the same year. So the recording quality should be good enough.
It is supposedly one of the great classic jazz albums, but I don't have it as I am not a great Brubeck fan.

Tell you what - you buy it and if it is any good convince me to get a copy...!!

I've found a SACD copy of the 'Time out' album.
The only problem is that I don't have a SACD player
