For those about to rock, we salute you

I'm a big fan of metal too, more traditional metal such as heavy metal, thrash, death, black..

My favourite bands are AC/DC, Napalm Death, Cannibal Corpse, Nile, Cradle of Filth, Emperor, Pantera, Bolt Thrower, Morbid Angel, Black Sabbath, The Angels, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and many others....

Wow, I must be ancient if Slipknot and In Flames are considered "Old Heavy Metal" Then I guess anything from the 90's is considered Classic in this throw away society. NOW, for Classic Heavy Metal that gets your heart and head going you need look no further than, IMO, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Saxon, Judas Priest, Diamond Head and Venom (never liked 'em though). THAT's classic Heavy Metal.

I completely agree, old "Classic" heavy metal isn't Slipknot et. al. its Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Saxon etc.. the sort of late 1960's-1970's stuff which started it all.

Don't forget that Motley Crue's first album was released in 1982 , surely that is classed as Classic Rock, it's 25 years old. Or is Classic Rock a style of music and nothing to do with the age of the music? I remember in the 80's that Bad Co were classed as a Classic Rock band, yet their first album was released in 1974; a shorter time period. Go figure

Anyone heard 3 Inches Of Blood? I am loving them at the moment, and they're playing in my tiny town soon! Can't wait.

Hallelujah! Amen to that!

Likewide, I have never been into Venom really, part from the odd song or two... Add Metallica to that list tho I think they qualify, with even their debut in 1983 launching them to "classic status" only a few years later

I also like a lot of "newer" bands : heavily into Dream Theater, LOVE Pantera, and bands like Slayer, Lamb Of God, Hammerfall, Coal Chamber, Megadeth, Nine Inch Nails, Motley Crue, Warrant, Poison, Biomechanical (seriously, check these guys out!!!) and LOADS more.....

Course, older is always welcome - Alice Cooper, AC/DC (such a TOP band), Ozzy + Sabbath, etc, and also "not really metal bands" like Guns N Roses etc.....

I love it all really, so long as it ain't drum n bass, jungle, garage or rap/hip hop - or that flakey, samey "boosh-boosh-boosh" dance rubbish

I love heavy metal. Can't beat a bit of My Chemical Romance for thrashing around to.

Re: Metal head are i

I've always liked the rock / metal scene, especially when it diversifies. Some of my favourites from over the years that haven't been mentioned:

Anthrax
Extreme
Electric Boys
Suicidal Tendencies
Mordred
Savatage
H-Blockxx
Sensor
Clawfinger
Love / Hate
Infectious Grooves
Faith No More

To name but a few.

The last year or so I've discovered some American imports I like, while not ground breaking stuff, they kick out some great tunes:

Powerman 5000
Trust Company
Breaking Benjamin
Exies
Chevelle

Re: Metal head are i

Three favourite bands ever:
Led Zeppelin
Rush
Black Sabbath.
In no order I hasten to add and this probably has been the case for over 20 years
Will give most guitar-based/rock music a chance though as tastes go from early Neil Young through to stuff like Cathedral.
