thanks for that, been a big fan of Rush for years (even the latter stuff) but never seen them (hate large stadium venues) so will try to make an effort this time

Well worth seeing - Saw them last time at Wembley (& ten years before that). I don't really like the venue, but Rush really get a 'hi-fi' sound from the PA like no-one else I've seen.
Always look forward to a new album by them.

Great news
As the late Tommy Vance once said
"They really are a tasty band. For a 3 piece - WOW!"

Haven't seen Tom Sawyer. The only Rush tribute band I ever saw were Chaser back in the early 80's, used to play The Dial Inn quite a lot, if you're old enough to remember?

I remember my older sister used to go there
I'm still a very young 39 year old.....
My sister first saw Rush on the Hemispheres tour, while my first was Permanent Waves tour at the good old Glasgow Apollo |

I have to take some of the blame for bringing RUSH to Britain.
I was born in Nigeria in 1958 and one of my best mates was canadian. We both went back home in the early 70's but we kept in touch. Around 74 (don't want to Google) I received a parcel from my mate with a letter in by RUSH. In the parcel was two of their first album and they asked me to keep one and send the other to the top music magazine in Britain. I ended up sending it to Geoff Barton at Sounds who amazingly reviewed it and I sent the press cutting back to my new mates.
What seemed a few months later another parcel came with two copies of Fly By Night and I sent that on to Geoff Barton who reviewed it. The next three albums were sent to me by the band although 2112 came before Caress Of Steel and I have the triple gatefold sleeve of All the Worlds A Stage. They didn't send two because by then thay had sent a copy to Sounds themselves. For my part all I had to do was send Ramones albums to my mate in Canada.
I was there for the very first tour of this country and I didn't use the backstage pass I'd been sent because I've never been starstruck.
I was there for the next two tours but by this time I'd lost contact with them. I went to see them on the R30 tour but I didn't know 70% of the stuff they played and just wished for the old days to come back.

dmpoole, the sample on the website sounds a LOT like Hemispheres..
to continue the thread... Geoff Barton's review of Hemispheres made me travel 60 miles on a bus (I was 15) to go and buy my first Rush album unheard and sight unseen.

At last year's Rush convention Donna Halper was guest speaker (she pretty much "found" the guys for the American audience). Gave a very interesting talk. They have been by far my fave band since Hemispheres (yes, even during the Presto years....). I thought the R30 tour was great - I went to 3 shows - the Manchester arena show was amazing (for the sheer size of the hall).
I know what you mean bout playing the older stuff. I was listening to a hemispheres show in the car this morning and would just love to hear that set played over again
I'm very surprised they are doing another euro tour - after reading Neil's latest book his impression of Europe isn't very high
Dont forget there is a rather good site for Euro rush fans at http://www.t-n-m-s.com

We need an AV Forums 'maximum respect' award for dmpoole
Geoff Barton's role is well publicised but, as with all journalists, it's the sources that are most important.
I first heard Rush when 'TV on the radio' played 2112 straight through on the Friday Night Rock Show and it blew me away. I went out the next day and bought Moving Pictures which was then the current album. It wasn't quite what I was expecting at the time but is probably now my favourite album.
As far as I'm concerned there are two types of people in the world - those who love Rush and those who haven't listened properly .
Roll on October |
