The Black Crowes....

For some reason, even tho I have known "of" them for years and years, I have only just got into these guys, but hot damn! The debut "Shake Your Money Maker" is an INCREDIBLE record!!!!

One of my fave "radio" songs for a long time has been "Hard To Handle" from the "...Money Maker" album, so I got hold of a copy of the album a few days ago - such a brilliant record! I love the mixture and blend of bluesy southern rock with a bit of new-age rock They have captured the perfect blend on that album I think - it's been on repeat now for a good few days!!!!!

Re: The Black Crowes....

The follow up 'The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion' is the single album of theirs that really floats my boat (I also have have shake your moneymaker and Amorica) Southern Harmony is certainly worth investigating.

Re: The Black Crowes....

Another vote for Southern Harmony - My favourite Back Crowes album.
For something a bit different, 'Live At The Greek' - Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes is worth a listen.

Re: The Black Crowes....

southern harmony is miles better, it's the best rolling stones album made since the mid 70s, the new primal scream is another contender for best stones album since the 70s too

Re: The Black Crowes....

Always loved The Black Crows.

I saw them live twice back in the 90's and they rocked big time !!

The first album was a truely great debut.

'Southern Harmony' is where they peaked - but the following albums have some treats on them too.

Highly recommended.

Re: The Black Crowes....

I think you'll find ANY BC CD has standouts. I only got into them by accident because I thought they sounded like The Faces, a common attack on them in the beginning. I've got everything they have done and NEVER been dissapointed with any album. And theres not many bands i can say that about.

'She Talks to Angels' is one of my most loved tracks ever.

Re: The Black Crowes....

Amorica track 11 'Descending'. Another magical Black Crowes moment IMO.

This thread has prompted me to revisit the BC cds. I hadn't forgotten how good they are, but good bands can get neglected when you have too much stuff!

Re: The Black Crowes....

Quite a few years ago, a freind asked me if I wanted to go to one of their concerts with him. I wasn't really into them and I didn't really like their radio song ,"she talks to angels" but since it was free I thought why not. It turned out to be one of the best concerts I have ever seen.

They were excellent. They looked great, the sounded great.

Re: The Black Crowes....

A lot of people say they sound like the Faces or the Stones - so it's not unheard of (if that makes anyone feel better).

Aye, Southern Harmony is their best IMO - but look out for the boxset, it has a few bonus tracks on the CD's and a 5 track bonus disc as well.

'She talks to angels' is one of my all time favourites The whole album is excellent. Got a copy of their latest live album.

Have you tried listening to Thunder's 'Backstreet Symphony' album ? Another classic - I play both albums over and over and NEVER get bored of them

I've got every album Thunder have made and have seen them live several times. Great stuff indeed. The last 2 albums have seen them back to the top of their form.

If anyone is looking for another contender for best Stones album since the 70's check out It Still Moves by My Morning Jacket. My review of it can be found here http://www.avforums.com/forums/showp...&postcount=224
