I'm looking to get these. Any thoughts?

Mahler’s Symphony No.5 played by the Vienna Philharmonic under Bernstein on a DG CD

- But what is meant by DG CD? -

vinyl: Bob Marley’s ‘Exodus’ and Keb Mo’s eponymous album

- This list keeps cropping up in respected reviewer's test music.
So I'd best go and get them!

Any pointers greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tim

With any classical piece try and get a glance at the reviews. Recordings may sound good, but the performance may not be. This is crucial with any famous piece. I have some pretty duff Beethoven symphonies that are well recorded but the orchestra just didn't do it on that recording.

Bear in mind that reviewers choose music based on what they think it will make the equipment do, not what is necessarily a good disc or recording. Some are actually chosen because they aren't. I would also add that reviewers disagree heavily on what does and does not produce a good sound.

They have also been known to cheat by using discs that sound good on whatever system they use - which is worthless in assessing hardware. I know, we used to use them to demonstrate kit we couldn't shift otherwise.

As such I wouldn't really go on whats on a reviewers list of albums to 'test with'.
