Does Alex Lifeson play on the new PT album

Was told today that Alex plays on PT's new 'Fear of a Blank Planet' when it's released. Am I being wound up or is it true?

Come on Flooded I need to know.

Re: Does Alex Lifeson play on the new PT album

"Porcupine Tree is currently working on their next studio album. Fear of a Blank Planet, due out April 16th, 2007, features two special guests - Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson and King Crimson's Robert Fripp. It will feature six "mostly lengthy" songs.[2][3]

The promotional tour for the new album begins in the UK in April. It will be the band's largest UK tour in several years. The band will also be appearing at the Gods Of Metal music festival on 3rd June 2007."

From Wikipedia. Looks promising.

It does indeed! Lifeson and Fripp! Whew! Lifesons a great guitarist, but Fripp is an iconic figure in the world of alt/ambient/prog.

A PT tour as well! It just gets better..........

Re: Does Alex Lifeson play on the new PT album

Fripp opened for King Crimson on their last tour a few months ago.
Playing his Frippertronics.

I found it music probably best heard in a good sitting down concert hall (maybe a church) or on a good hi fi. To me it just didn't work with a standing audience all blabbering away, some laughing at the music (it was not exactly, err, foot tapping stuff!). A bit like old Tangerine Dream, but all played on one guitar and not as rythmic- he just played a 30 minute piece without any introductions - came on, played some guitar loops, people clapped, and walked off again!
As I have played guitar I could see what it was all about and how clever it was, but I believe puzzlement ruled the day! My wife still talks about how pants it was now!
It would have been alot better had it been a Fripp concert with some fans there who knew what to expect.

Phil

Re: Does Alex Lifeson play on the new PT album

From PT site.

1. Fear of a Blank Planet (7.28)
2. My Ashes (5.07)
3. Anesthetize (17.42)
4. Sentimental (5.26)
5. Way Out of Here (7.37)
6. Sleep Together (7.28)

The album is set for April release through Roadrunner in Europe, Atlantic in the US, and WHD Entertainment in Japan. It's likely that both the stereo CD and 5.1 surround sound DVDA will be packaged together as standard.

Great news DVDA as well.

Purchased this yesterday. Not as instant as Deadwing, but fantastic just the same. Seek out at all costs

Re: Does Alex Lifeson play on the new PT album

Recently bought this too. The good news is it's more of the same. The bad news is it's more of the same - would have liked to have heard something a little more challenging. Still a mandatory purchase if you like prog rock.

Re: Does Alex Lifeson play on the new PT album

Has anyone bought the DVDA version and if so where can it be bought from? I haven't had much time to look for it but a quick search just now only found the CD version.

Was it that limited that it's gone?

Re: Does Alex Lifeson play on the new PT album

Don't think the DVD-A version is out till September.

Play have now got the Ltd edition CD in stock, which includes a 5.1 DTS DVD mix of the album, which is stunning.

I think it is Limited in the true sense of the word, so I'd hurry.
