Thanks: Gave 21, Got 15 | copy control discs
Anyone else fed up with discs you can't play in the car? Bought a couple of Blue Note cd's recently and thought they were faulty until I read the small print on the case. I wouldn't mind if they were a bit more upfront about it. Anyway I think the backlash may have started, it's made the letters page of Februarys Jazzwise mag, and if you google EMI/Blue Note copy control.....rants aplenty |

Hi
you may be also interested to read this http://ukcdr.org/issues/cd/bad/

sample from page
"Ready For Freddie" by Freddie Hubbard: Reported corrupt as supplied by Amazon in the UK. This is an EMI (Blue Note) release, with a warning on the packaging. It refuses to play on a standalone CD player, which reports "not audio disc". A PC also fails to recognise the disc as an audio disc.
"Archetype" by Fear Factory: Reported corrupt as supplied by PLAY.com. The reporter says: "Even the most rebellious death metal bands are getting non-standard releases, I just can't buy music anymore!"

Thanks Lisa, interesting reading, FYI the 2 I've got, which don't appear to be on the list, Patricia Barber- A Fortnight in France, & Nicola Conte- Other Directions.

I have quite a few now and never had a problem on normal CD players, don't have car CD i use my Zen MP3. My PC only plays the encoded bits some discs let you play, yet Nero will copy the tracks fine manually ie not the 'copy disc' option.
The problem i've only recently discovered is my Limit 900se DVD refuses to even recognise any of the protected CD's at all. Yet will play the copies i do of them!
The whole thing to me is a waste of time.

CloneCD will happily copy those discs, so you can play them in the car

Depends on what Cd-rom reader you use.
I use a SCSI Plextor cd-rom, and it reads everything.

Take/send the discs back and ask for a replacement or your money back.
If you have been sold these discs as "CDs" then they are misleading you because they are not CDs!!
Beware any EMI disc bought from CD Wow as most of the ones I've seen are CC discs
THe EMI pressing plant in Holland runs two production lines, one for CDs and for CC discs

sorry this all sounds quite interesting and i do not want to get out of my depth hear again. But in House we have the Rod stewart set the great American song book set and Mums got some David Bowie to with this copyright protect.
My five penny worth is that my creative zen m software has a CD ripper in that obliterates these copyright controls just copys anything and everything
As i have stated before the only one i have trouble with is the last track of the 20 lick rolling stones disc has something the writer can get passed in creative/media player/ and streambox ripper .. or is this precisely what we on about hear
