When I find my copy (in the car? in her car? under the settee?) I'll try it in my DVP-NS300. Works in the car and on my Marantz CD player.

Have you tried playing on anything else yet?

Oh, by the way - good album!

Martin,

I just tried my copy in my DVP NS300 and it works fine. I have the UK enhanced version (the original release). Puts up a nice "CD Extra" logo on the screen while it's playing....

1) CD Player knackered not used for over 3 years
2) Car has MD
3) Upstairs CD not used in 3 years

I'm exchanging this weekend - if that fails BMG

Aaah of course!!

I wonder if they've copy protected later releases..... Any reference to the usual software in the small print on the back of the case?

Found my copy at last!

Works fine in my DVP NS300. I also got the 'CD Extra' logo whilst it plays - what does this signify? There doesn't appear to be any way of getting to the special features (videos), so why bother??

Sounds like you've got a dud 'un!

not sure on this, but my suspicion is that Sony "tuned" their lasers on certain models to discourage CD-R use.
I own an older Sony DVD player, a Toshiba PC-DVD and a Toshiba SD9200 that all read every disc available without problem.
I have a Sony DVP550D that refuses to read all CD-Rs, all video CDs and selected DVDs (my wife just rented Shallow Hal and it would work in all the other players, but not the Sony).
Speaking with several colleagues, they have similar trouble with their Sony DVDs purchased during the same period. Strangely, products purchased later do not have this quirk. Perhaps Sony had trouble with their drives-or maybe it was an intentional tweak to discourage "pirated" (and unfortunately also legit. compilations made from purchased CDs).

My Sony DVP-NS300 won't look at CD-Rs, but is happy to read CD-RWs, which seems a bit strange. The replacement 305 happily reads both, and also has an MP3 browser, so Sony must be getting soft - It won't be long before they sell units with easy region hacks!

I don't think Martin was referring to a CD-R copy of Dido though...
