New Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon DVD-A ???

Hi..
I read in this months HiFi Choice (p20) that there is now an UNreleased version of Pink Floyd's Dark side of the moon DVD-A that surpasses any previous realase in sound quality made directly from the Master Tapes..

Apparently its flying round the internet, freely available to download...

MODS - I think theres no copyright infringement / illegal guff / call it what you will, because the original creator is happy for it to be "released" and says himself that "nobody should pay for a copy"...

Anyone know of this?
And where i can find it? (i dont do bit torrent)

Thanks
.

Hi Systemsdead..

Thanks for the reply.
Are you sure the one you have is the same??
I thought this was fairly new on the net..

There seems to be so many versions of this album, that i get completely confused.

This one comes direct from the master-tapes apparently:-
"Other unofficial surround discs of DSOTM have come from vinyl or Q8 recordings; this one comes from the master tapes" & "The original files were not tampered with in any way at all - no rework, no maximising, nothing. The album is as it would have been heard back in the studio when Alan Parsons originally mixed it." & "With MLP encoding, on-screen menus and original artwork"

How can i tell i get the right one from all the others??

hopefully the same creators will do wish you were here. they did a nice job on DSOTM. i've owned the original quad LP for years but only recently been able to hear it properly, and this is the original mix rather than the newer and arguably better 5.1 mix

The HFN "review" was a bit over the top in my view, but this does make an interesting alternative to the SACD release

I have no idea how to optimise torrents...all new to me. But this is now on day 3 and nowhere near finished. I hope it is worth the wait.

Same here mate, also don't like the idea of P2P, I did try it but was not going to wait 4-5 days for it , even though I'm on 8mb broadband

It is a stunning remix by whoever?? but they have done a brilliant job of it, sounds as good , if not better, than the SACD.

Give systemdead a PM , he can help you out

I also downloaded and it is definately worth the wait

The sound quality and mix is fantastic.

One question though - each track doesn't go seemlessly into the other like the regular CD. I don't think it is my DVD player, anyone elase got the same issue?

The sound quality and mixing is fantastic...

Although i have one question...
On the disc, it has 3 multi-channel tracks:-
A DTS 4.1 surround mix
A Dolby Digital 4.1 surround mix
An advance resolution MLP 4.1 surround mix (96 sample rate)

How do i know which i am playing??
And how do you change from one mix to another???
There seems to be no menu...

If i use digital audio, it looks like i can only get a stereo signal out..
It works properly (multi-channel) if i use analogue inputs, but then how do i know which of the 3 mixes im recieving???

Im completely confused...

Using Arcam AV8 / Arcam DV27A

Cheers

You need to press 'top menu' on your dvd remote. my Pioneer 575 would only play the lossless version at first which seems to be stereo, in fact some players won't play this, I preesed top menu and hey-presto up come the audio selection, from which you can select lossless, 4.1 Dolby or 4.1 DTS, the DTS is fantastic. I'm am using just the optical output, no analogue, with yammy surround amp.

I think that track 1 is the lossless, 2 Dolby Digital and 3 DTS. Your DVD player should tell you on-screen which track is being played and its format.

leaat23 - I have the same problem and am also using a 575. When you talk about 'top menu' where do you go after that??, audio option or the initial setup option. Mine seems to only output 2 channel which my Pioneer 916 amp then converts to DPL II. Trying to work out how to switch it to DTS out.

[edit] Scratch that, tried it again withthe DVD remote rather than the re-programmed AMP remote and it works a treat!!, what a difference in sound[/edit]

worth the wait

It finally finished after 5.5 days, and however frustrating that was, it's definitely worth the effort.

It sounds excellent and is quite a bit different in places (the mix more than the content)...think it sounds better than my sacd version!
