Re: The Mars Volta - Amputechture

HMV shipped mine yesterday so I should have it by Monday. It leaked ages ago but I managed to resist the urge to download it. Lookin' forward to hearing the album though; one of the few forward-thinking bands around today!

Re: The Mars Volta - Amputechture

I too have resisted the download. I've heard the single streamed via their site/myspace and it sounds good.

For what it's worth I've read some very promising reviews of the album.

It sounds completely different to the one in the car earlier.

My initial thought was that it lacks the drama and impact of Deloused & FTM, but I'm really enjoying the second listen. It seems much shorter than its 76mins, which is a good sign.

They seem to have gone even more proggy, especially Tetragrammaton.

yep, it makes more sense on headphones.

Re: The Mars Volta - Amputechture

How does the whole album compare to the song on their myspace profile ie is that one of the best songs off the album?

Thanks.

I think it was 'viscera eyes' on myspace.
IMO that is one of the more accessable tracks on the CD. I would not say it was the best, just one of the most straight forward. (the first half of it anyway, before it goes mental).

To be honest, I'm really trying to like it, but it is hard work. To me it lacks the obvious hooks and real dramatic moments of Deloused (Roulette Dares) & FTM (Cassandra Gemini).

It is however a very interesting listen.

just my opinion, others may disagree.

Edit:
The penny is dropping, I'm enjoying it
