Can you please advise on budget, music taste, whether you want DVD-A as well (multi format), is 5.1 really important or are you happy with the hi-res stereo, what standard of kit do you have?

Otherwise people can fire off high end gear, or 'beer budget' stuff and you'll be none the wiser.

Cheers

There is a thread called 'Looking for a CD player' around here somewhere, and a poster is offering a very good quality Sony SACD player.

Can't remember any more details than that, sorry!!

It's for stereo only. My other equipment is AVI S2000 pre and power amps, and AVI Neutron 3 speakers.

Max I can spend is about £150, second hand is fine.

Since theres little to choose at this price and few manufacturers actually in the production of such for soley SACD (some DVD players around) I'd go with Sony. S/H is probably your best bet. The Sony SCD-XB770 or 790 are good entry level players that also do multi channel. The XB770 uses some parts out of the renowned classic SCD-1 reference player of yesteryear. You'll find that it actually gives much more expensive CD players a run for their money even in CD replay mode.
