Eagles at the NIA last night - quickie review

I was lucky enough to have seats in the seventh row last night for The Eagles. They came on stage at around 7.35pm, and left it at around 10.40pm. I have to say that they were absolutely brilliant, and exceeded every expectation I had, with the single exception that they didn't play "Wasted Time". They did play lots more than I expected overall, and a three song encore including Hotel California and Desperado had me virtually hyper-ventilating.

Although its very true to say that these guys are not getting any younger, they certainly have lost nothing over the years. Glenn Frey's voice to me sounds better than it ever has, and the collective guitar playing between them (even Joe Walsh amazed me). Joe Walsh had everyone in stitches between songs, especially when he told us that he had to be told that it was he that had written "In the City"! I wonder why that was then . I thought the horn section were fantastic, and the trumpet intro to Hotel California is fantastic listening to it live. Don Henley was of course absolutely awesome, his voice simply got better as the evening went on.

Other highlights for me were Life in The Fast Lane (the audience was all on its feet by this time, although they spent much of it sitting sadly), Heartache Tonight, Take It To The Limit, and New Kid in Town, all of which I can only describe as classic Eagles, the harmonies blending perfectly. Best song of the night, other than the encore (IMHO) was 'Lyin Eyes - had everyone singing, and me grinning from ear to ear, I think I'll remember it forever.

So all in all, a fantastic experience. For anyone else going to see them this summer, you're in for a treat .

Saw them in Cardiff last night. Excellent. I agree about the audience being slow to get to their feet but I am sure most of them were worried about their joints.

Sorry they missed out Best of my Love but thought the show was first class.

DESPERADO
