Question "The Bends"...is this a typical Radiohead album?

Never really been a Radiohead fan,but have recently started getting into "The Bends". Is it typical Radiohead?

They all sound kind of different to be honest... Pablo Honey has the closest sound I guess but it's no where near as good.

My advice would be to try OK Computer next, then maybe look at the newer stuff (which has gone off in a totally different direction that most fans seem to love or hate)

roadeh is right, most albums are different

the bends is a great rock album. the b sides and cd single tracks are also pretty good and some even great

pablo honey has creep, one great track, and the rest aren't so hot.

ok computer is another fantastic album, but more pink floydy and spacey and mellow than rock out guitars. you should definately get that next. you can just skip pablo honey really, but try and get your hands on the song creep as thats essential

the follow up, kid a, and then amnesiac were pretty much recorded around the same time, but are nothing like the previous albums, the band going into a techno electronica phase, not ibiza style, more bleeps and beats and stuff. they did some live shows before kid a came out, and i remember after one show a fan saying that was the worst concert they had ever been to in thier life. they had expected more ok computer and bends style stuff, but were bamboozled by a set of mostly new material that sounded nothing like they expected, with the familiar material very much an afterthought. well, not really, it was all just a cunning ploy by the band to fool people. the next day's set was mostly classics with the new stuff mixed in better. anyways those albums are very much love em or loath em, or not care much about em

hail to the theif was a bit of a return back to guitars, with still a touch of beats and weirdness. again, take with a pinch of salt

when great, the band is very great. but being such a critically adored huge band, they don't mind taking risks with the music to create something new and unusual. even if the fans don't like it

Yep, the last 2 posts are spot on. Not much else to say really other than to add strength to the suggestion that you try Ok Computer.

The bends is their most rocky album, which many think is their best.
However the majority would go with OK Computer.

Hail to the Thief/Kid A/ Amnesiac do have their moments, but are in a rather different style to the Bends

picking the best album between the bends and ok computer is hard as both are great, but different. it's a bit like choosing your best floyd album. wish you were here (as covered by thom yorke and sparklehorse) usually wins in a fans vote, but dark side always gets overall vote by the public. i suppose theres some kind of comparision with DSOTM being a bit rockier in places, and WYWH is mellower and doesn't really rock out. theres nothing on OKc that rocks out like anything on the bends really, but still some nice guitarwork and melodic tunes with what can be called lyrics. kida/amnesiacs lyrics are a bit more in common with the writings of a spaced out lunatic obsessed with politics. at least thom yorke doesn't go around like bono thinking he is the most important person on the planet since jesus and his band are the best group since the disciples

anyways theres a thom solo lp due out soon also, as well as a new radiohead album this year, and supposedly the RH album is going a bit more back to guitars and the RH of old, and hears hoping

I must admit the interweb does seem devoid of any information

i think your confused with the new thom yorke solo album called the eraser, out on 10th july on xl records

radiohead aren't currently signed to a record label, and aren't even sure if they will release an album or a series of EP's next

Yup, it was an interview with Thom spread over a number of 'pages', I must have failed to read the first page which probably went along the lines of "Thom Yorke has made a solo album called 'The Eraser'..."

I just read the remaing pages with the release date I made 2 + 2 = 5
