Outputting PCM Stereo from DVD to AMP/CD RECORDER

Hi

I have a SONY RCD-W100S hooked up to my SKY+ (optically) for best connection to record audio.

However, for DVD players/recorders, when playing a disc encoded in compressed Dolby format and you output PCM via the optical link to an amp is the audio actually decompressed or does it just output the same waveform as the Dolby 2.0 soundtrack???

How does it work? Please can someone help
