Question Why 'Beatles' Ticket to Ride' on the Dark Side of the Moon?

Hi! I wonder why is the orchestra playing Beatles' 'Ticket To Ride'
at the very end of the 'Dark Side of the Moon'? It starts about 27 secs
before the end of the disc. You have to play it very loud. Do not start loud,
say 40 secs before the end of the disc because you'll blow your ears!

I've heard it on:
1. MFSL's Gold cd
2. Red Book layer of the SACD
3. 2-channel stereo DSD layer of the SACD

It's not on the 5.1 DSD layer.

Of course, it must have been there in the earlier cd releases and
I don't know about the vinyl releases. Why did they leave it there?

See you on The Beatles' Side of the Moon

Adam

the most likely explanation was that when recording/mixing/finalising the album at abbey road, someone was playing that track in another room, and it ended up being included by accident

you can google up more info about this btw

Is that true?

Why would a beatles track be playing in the studio at the time of DSOTM recording?

Must go and give my vinyl a spin... I've never noticed it.

Exclamation It is the orchestra playing ...

It's the orchestra playing "Ticket To Ride" and not the Beatles themselves.

See you on the Beatles' Dark Side of the Moon

it's a recording studio, there could be all sorts of reasons why it could be playing

you'll hear better from the cd. i suggest you rip it to wav and use a program like soundforge or cool edit to find the end section and play it

Goodness gracious me. It's there! Dug out my Hybrid SACD and listened to the stereo CD layer, heh I just remembered I had this too .

Wacked the volume right up to hiss levels through headphones and golly gosh!

Not surprising not heard it before because it is very faint and you need a lot of volume.... I pity your ears Adam

When I get a chance I'll listen to the Vinyl too (Jap pressing).

it's on the master tape, so it's on all pressings (or at least should be). if it's not on the new 5.1 remix then thats through choice - but then they went back to the master tapes to remix

theres a fair history about the masters and the mixing of DSOTM, which you can find with a bit of googling. some of it is pretty interesting

it's at the very end of the album, the final track as the heartbeats fade. it's on the final mixed master, but not on the seperate tracks used to mix the album, which is why it's not present on the 5.1 mix. i'm not sure if it's on the quad mix, i need to check that

Yea I understand that but since it is of such a low amplitude it is possible that due to Vinyl's limited dynamic range compared to CD and increased noise level it will be lost.

I didn't know this untill this thread and I've just played it on headphones and it is there but at a very low level. If any music had restarted it would have blown my heaphones apart.

I had never realised this until I read this thread either, despite owning the album on vinyl, tape,cd and sacd.I had to run my Denon 2805 flat out to hear this through my AKG's,I didn't dare try it through my speakers just in case I timed it wrong.Which begs the question, who was it who originally played this album loud enough to hear this in the first place?Presumably it was the last thing they ever heard.

Probably the same person who decided to put the record on at the very same time they put on the video of the Wizard Of Oz

the first half of the movie does synch up (if you do it right - preferably using an ntsc copy of the movie so it runs at the correct speed, start the cd at the 3rd lion roar) with a few noticeable coincidences, the very first lyric sung is "breathe", whilst dorothy blows into her hands, and "balanced on the biggest wave you race towards an early grave" she walks on the top of the fence and then falls off into the pig stye, and amongst others, the b/w section of the movie ends at the end of side 1 of the album, and side 2 starts when it changes to colour. at the end of the album, the heartbeats fade out when the tin man is goingo n about his heart and then falls over. it's worth watching once if your such a fan. if you smoke exotic cigarettes, eat magic mushrooms or eat small squared of cardboard it all seems to make much more sense though

a far cooler synch is to take the end "jupiter" sequence of 2001 a space oddessy and play the full version of echoes from meddle, starting just as the opening title to "jupiter" starts. the track is the exact lenght of the final 23 min sequence of the movie, and looks pretty incredible, with the pacing of the movie changing to the pacing and vibe of the music. i've shown that to a few people who have been pretty amazed. again you need to use the ntsc version or speed up the tune by 4% for PAL

it's best to do these things in advance by using software to synch the video and audio and burn to dvd/vcd/etc than trying to synch live. a few people have "let out" on the internet thier own versions of oz, some good, some not so good, but i've only came across one of echos which is on an oz disc, but they didn't do a very good job in synching it, with the start of both video and audio clipped, which does spoil it a bit
