Imogen Heap / Speak for Yourself

This CD has been on constant rotation in my car for the last week or so and quite frankly it's the best CD I've heard this year.

Imogen Heap's vocals are the focal point and she has a truly amazing and unique talent. A blend of Liz Frazer from the Cocteau's, Dido, Enya... and that's just for starters. She seems also to be a talented keyboard player and creates a fantastic electronic/rhythmic tapestry to support the vocals.

Not a bad track on the album, they sound refreshingly different even quirky at times but they never err from melodic and enjoyable sensibilities.

Hide and Seek deserves special mention for it's masterclass vocoder credentials. Have You Got it in You? and Closing In are tremendous, as is Clear the Area. But they are all fantastic.

Highly recommended. The digipak presentation is also a cut above the hum-drum.

If you liked Speak for Yourself you should try and get hold of Frou Frou and their Album called Details

Quote:
A collaboration between musician/vocalist Imogen Heap and producer/arranger/songwriter/musician Guy Sigsworth, Frou Frou manufactured an impressive brand of vocal-driven, electronic pop formerly the exclusive territory of Björk.
Stunning.

I have now got Frou Frou and it's another great album. Saw Imogen Heap's concert in Manchester on Sunday, despite some technical hiccups (1st UK date) it was a mesmeric performance.

Her contribution to the Narnia soundtrack is also amazing. Not so taken with her first album, I Megaphone. Bit too much "angry young woman" angst for me.

I hope she brings a live album out - the live versions of the tracks are so different.

Re: Imogen Heap / Speak for Yourself

Headlock CD single just released. Stunning packaging. Saw her again recently at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. Amazing.
