Question Which is larger: Your CD or DVD collections?

Just interested (or nosey!).

My CDs = 800-900 (haven't done an accurate count in a while).

DVDs getting close to CD's already! ...........although that does include transfers from VHS to DVD. Vinyl outnumbers CD/SACD/DVD-A/V all together!

Like Karkus, I've been having a CD/Vinyl purge of late to get rid of stuff I never play and are never likely too again. This has brought the CDs down to a closer parity with DVD.

Hmmm Vinyl collection easily the largest which includes an estimate of 400 singles, 190 albums.

CD's, actually not far behind Vinyl albums at 140 (not bad for 5 years interest )

SACD: A solitary 1 and can't be played lol!

DVD-A: A massive 2

DVD: Approx 200 which surprises me Anyone want a few?

About 200 CDs and only 68 DVDs.

I've pretty much finished my DVD collection now - I certainly have no intention of reaching 3 figures as I just don't watch enough movies. I suspect that I'll continue buying weekly CDs forever though.

I had no intention of buying a DVD player as I've never been that bothered with missing a film on TV. I could never understand how my mate had seen so many films.... he'd always say when a film came on TV ..... *seen that* and I never had! Guess I must be making up for lost time, or justyfing my initial impulse buy

Hmm- 400 CD's ish. Its hard to tell where my collection ends and the GF's starts.
>100 Pieces of vinyl- exact number unknown.
Approx 450 DVD's- again some mine some hers.
A big bucket of WMA's and MP3's across various drives and there are still minidiscs (about 150) lying around as well.

I used to think I had a fair number of albums and then I came across this guy who was wanting to do a bit of an upgrade on his HiFI..........my mate who ran the shop said I should go round and see this guys HiFi system as it had a massive stack of Naim 135s and other items of wonderment. Of course I got around to giving it the old 'well its OK having this equipment but what good is it without records' at which point he proceeded to show me the top floor of his house which was racked out floor to ceiling with multiple shelves (christ knows how the floor supported it all) and then said that he had to keep the rest in the garage due to lack of space...............have you ever thought, I didnt realise that there actually was as many records as that ?

i thought i had more, but at a rough count for insurance purposes i think i have about 7000 cds (counting doubles/triples/etc as 1 item), maybe a couple hundred or so are cd singles, theres maybe 100 or so freebies from papers and mags, but it's mainly "proper albums". i got shot of hundreds of cd singles years ago, i used to work in record stores so collected lots of crap, but knowledge of music meant i could throw away stuff without worrying about it being worth anything in the future

record wise, i have a few hundred as i also used to dj, but those are stashed away, i have maybe 100 or so valuable/collectable old skool house and disco 12"s that i'm keeping for a rainy day to sell to another trainspotter

dvd wise, somewhere like a couple of thousand, with literally dozens of unwatched discs, hundreds if you include the extras. i used to spend most of my money on cds, but now it's dvds. it could be worse, it could be an addiction to crack rather than shiny discs! at least, they way i like to explain it is that rather than keep my cash in a bank sitting there unused, i can hoard my dvd/cd collection like gold bullion and enjoy it and sell it off if necessary. although i never sell of anything these days, and i'm up to my neck in debt from buying a house and massive plasma telly. but at least i can enjoy my dvds!

I've often thought that there is far to much music to listen to in this world now and far to much to be able to own and listen to. The bigger your collection gets the less likelyhood of some of your older stuff to ever get played again.

With Audio visual as a hobby to this makes it doubly hard to find the time to sit and listen. He says as his turntable has been quietly rusting for most of the year

CDs: Over 600
DVD-As: 12
SACD: 25
Vinyl: 120
DVDs: 400

Its scary to think that I have a rough 2:3 ratio for DVDs to CDs when I have been buying CDs for nearly 18 years and only buying DVDs for 4 years.

I only kept the "rare" records when I moved to CD so I guess my vinyl collection is worth nearly as much as the rest of my collection put together.

My CD collection is far larger since I'm more interested in music by itself than AV experiences. That and I didn't even get a DVD player until 2004. I have 2500+ CDs (don't know for sure how many) and perhaps 60 DVDs.

CD: somewhere around 600-700 albums, a handful of singles/EPs too
DVD: around a dozen films, 2 DVD-A albums

I seem to spend all my spare money on equipment, and leave the DVD buying to my mates...

Many moons ago I did an install for a customer who listened to only classical during the demo. He fell in love with our Proac towers and wanted them to compliment his MF pre-power, two box Marantz CD and Oracle Delphi IV system. He had the biggest vinyl collection I've ever seen (all of one wall, floor to ceiling in a 30ft room!) all classical. He also had over 300+ CD's!To cap it all he reckoned he hadn't even scratched the surface of what lies out there classical wise.........

On the home front...............just added another two to the DVD collection!

Over the weekend added 5 CD's, 2 DVD movies, 2 music DVD's and I keep thinking I must stop as I'm running out of space to put everything. But whenever I see stuff cheap it just screams at me to buy it.

My CD collection eclipses my DVD collection by a factor of 5 but my mp3 collection eclipses both by a significant margin (garnered from borrowed friend's cd's and iTune m4p's).

Thanks to everyone who's voted so far.

Dunno why, but I imagined, when I started this poll, that people's DVD collections would emerge as being larger than their CD collections. Speaking personally - and as you'll see from my signature - I'm currently rediscovering my love of the humble CD. I've just become sick of MP3 players that can't do the basics right: i.e. play back albums gaplessly when that's what the artists intended!

But to get back on topic - and to pick up on the issue of vinyl; something I hadn't even considered putting in this poll, as I HATE IT with a passion (all that annoying static and popping and clicking ... aaaarrrggghhh!!!) - my neighbour has the most substantial vinyl LP collection I've ever encountered. And it's all classical! Picture, if you will, a double garage, its walls all racked out with shelving, with further shelving extending out into the garage space itself, until there's almost no room left to move. Then picture on said shelving, what must amount to tens of thousands of LPs!! Most of them quite rare, as I understand it.

Christ knows what he'd do if he's house caught fire!

CD's around 600, DVD's around 400.

CD collection has been building a LOT longer, though. DVD will outstrip it in a couple of years, maybe less.
