What other artists do you like?
What sort of music to you feel like listening to?
Do you want a different style of music to what you have, of stuff in a similar vein?

I guess you have Kasabian, Killers, White Stripes etc....

Recently I've been listening to my Meat Puppets albums a lot, (pups II is due to land on the doorstep next week )
also Tool (Lateralus), Pink Floyd (The Wall), The Stranglers and Talking Heads.
Today Iggy Pop got an airing on the way home and Dire Straits' Alchemy is spinning as I type (another thread reminded me of it).

Basically I can recommend lots of stuff (as can everyone else) but it may not float your boat...
have a look in the 'Today I am mostly listening to thread'

cheers

wash your mouth out with soap young man (best Brian Clough voice)

when's the Babyshambles album out? - not really my cup of tea (I think the guy's an idiot), but I've heard good comments about it.

Another vote for Kate Bush's new album, 'Aerial'. Unquestionably up there with her previously best work of 20 years ago, 'Hounds Of Love'. Can recommend BOTH of these albums wholeheartedly.

The silver discs that've been getting a fairly heavy rotation the last week or so are:
Kenny Chesney = When The Sun Goes Down
The Very Best Of Showaddywaddy
The Bay City Rollers = Absolute Rollers
Paul Weller = Stanley Road
Brooks And Dunn = Hillbilly Deluxe
xzibit = Man vs Machine
Velvet Revolver = Contraband
Limp Bizkit = The Choclate Starfish and.........

And the album Salva Nos by Mediaeval Baebes is whirring away at the moment

In my defence I only bought them because they were cheap and in the case of TBCR I wanted to know why my older sisters thought they were fabulous when they were teenagers, I'm 29 and "missed out" on the whole phenomenom(sp?), thankfully.

Have to admit that "Under The Moon Of Love" is a great song though.

2 two bands that immediately spring to mind .......bon jovi and def leopard..christ i cant even type those names without feeling the urge to vomit....sorry

I can't recall recommending those , and neither am I likely to.

So who floats your boat? what do you want to get out of music? why do you listen to it? and where (car, home, mp3 player) etc?
Some music is good to chill, others for driving on a sunny morning, others for relieving pent up aggression
I could tell you to buy Frances the Mute by The Mars Volta, but I won't (it is rather good though).

Hate to admit it, but just for the vaguely retro disco vibe, try Madonna's latest offering: 'Confessions On A Dance Floor'. It really grows on you.

i'm an old punk at heart...but i can appreciate some music for what it is ....ie the madonnas and the kylies of this world are good at what they do.
also you've got to have some mellow moments of an evening ...
have to say though...i reckon my favorite band in the last 10 years gotta be.. GreenDay.
i was reading in Q magazine a rather good quote from mr gallagher senior about the various latest batch of artists up for awards:
''james blunt?...a soundtrack to your life....F### off!''

Have you any Bad Religion?
try 'No Control' or 'Against the Grain' - both recorded in the late 80's but Green Day have been re-hashing them ever since.

I can recommend them, very fast, very catchy tunes, great lyrics....

visit their web site for free sampler mp3's.

Try checking out Porcupine Tree for some inventive rock music. 'In Absentia' is a good place to start

That's easy then.

Most of The Clash catalogue is essential listening, along with Big Audio Dynamite and the later 2 offerings from Joe Strummer & The Mescaleroes. (Not too far off of what's already been said as Mick Jones produced the Babyshambles album). Also worth checking out Stiff Little Fingers, 4ft Fingers.

If you havn't tried these then have a look for The Get Up Kids, The Living End, Rancid, Operation Ivy and so on amongst many others. I've been quite into The Stranglers lately and for a slightly more urban vibe I've been enjoying Asian Dub Foundation.

Perhaps if you can narrow it down a bit more we can recommend specific albums.

SBowler, Goldfinger have been around for ages and are OK but nothing special IMO. Pretty good live I suppose. They're from America and I have no idea why they put a German verse in 99 Red Balloons.

ah SLF...imflammable material...great album.saw them live many years ago.
the stranglers..another great band ahead of their time, along with the damned.did get into B.A.D for a little while during that musical wilderness that was the 80s
''the get up kids'' sound promising along with bad religion...the name seems familiar but cant place a tune to them.
as for the clash ...at the time i did'nt like them ,always prefered the pistols, though a did get a greatest hits type disc a few years ago.
the pistols and the clash,i've always thought, were a bit like the stones or the beatles..you either like one or the other.
another band i was massively into at the time was peter and the test tube babies, great live band...wonder what ever happened to them?

I've seen Green Day about 5 times now and Bullet in a Bible should waiting on the doormat when I get home tomorrow (along with Dub Side of the Moon).

I'd definitely recommend you revisit The Clash, they're easily my favourite band and **** all over the Pistols.

As far as the Get Up Kids go, I'd recommend Something to Write Home About which is probably my favourite album. A little softer than some people might like and although it should probably be classed in the "emo" bracket it really is beautiful throughout.

Plus of course there's The Pixies, New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders, Guns N Roses, Buzzcocks, Johnny Cash, Catch22, Capdown, Crackout, Dead Kennedys, Dropkick Murphys, The Wildhearts to name a few more which might attract your attention...

Dont remember recommending those either !

Your still not being specific enough to suggest anything for you.

How about Mercy,Mercy by the Buddy Rich Big Band. (Jazz for drummers more swing, clever drumming and less difficult to get into than Miles Davis).

I against I by the Bad Brains. (hardcore punk/rock/reggae fusion).

Double Nickle on a Dime-Minutemen (punk crossed with something, very difficult to describe half jazz, half rock, definitely not soft).

Meat Puppets II -The Meat Puppets (cow punk, very freewheeling again its difficult to describe as no one seems to do anything like it).

Way Of The Vaselines - The Vaselines (Scottish punk band thats a lot of fun to listen to, tongue in cheek lyrics, charming covered by Nirvana on several albums).

Damaged - Black Flag (Cathartic, aggressive hardcore punk with no flab).

Bad Religion has already been mentioned but have a listen to the Track -Los Angeles is Burning off their latest album (not their best album IMO) and see how many people think they are copying Green Day, while you smile knowingly!

New Day Rising-Husker Du (Noise oiks that use heavily distorted guitars and shouted vocals, they take a while to figure out but once those tunes penetrate your skull, listen to the title track or the song about the girl who lives on a hill).

McClusky do Dallas-McLusky (nothing to do with any pop bands that might have similar names. This is a British Greenday, but less pop and more punk listen to the track Lightsabre cock sucking blues).

Rocket to Russia - The Ramones (Sheena is a Punk rocker, 3 chord wonder kids who played fast and loud and mixed in the sweetness of pop hooks).

The Woods - Sleater Kinney (whoa a brand new album this year and one I heartily recommend, three girlies who can show the guys a thing or two, there is no soft option its hard and fast).

Marquee Moon - Television (erring towards prog rock, but missing by a country mile. Probably one of the most important albums ever as it showed that clever could also be fun. Two guitarists that were hard wired together. Total perfection).

Killing Joke -(2003) A brand of heavy punk rock from the 80s but still relevant today, still banging it out loud and proud, pulsing heavy music with a tight rythmic buzz saw guitar sound, complimented by the drumming skills of Dave Grohl. Blows away many pretenders to the crown of heaviest band, Metallica sound almost polite next to them.

Im guessing your tastes are towards upbeat punk, so this is a selection that reflects that but every group is different and will give you an idea of some of the other styles available.

Another one this year is The New Pornographers album-Twin Cinema, I dont think it is your cuppa tea, but you never know.

wow.. yep a few i've heard off and a few i have'nt...i mean i could walk out of hmv with a handfull of cds from various bands i know and like but i thought i try and find something a bit different.i mean sometimes you need a helping hand.one of the things that used to really hack me off is buying a album because of one song and finding the rest is plop so the last few years i've been a bit more selective.
when i was a teenager i was definetly a music snob in what i thought was good and what was not.tastes now i mean i've got quite a varied bunch of stuff, yer classics like the stones, the who, jimi even some floyd to punk, indie brit pop stuff (hate that phrase),ska, moby, morcheeba .one album was a suprise to me and that was morrisseys we are the quarry...never really like him over the years but i played that album to death for a while.also i was listening to the wifes david bowie cd,forgot how good his early stuff was.

''I'd definitely recommend you revisit The Clash, they're easily my favourite band and **** all over the Pistols.''
sorry eviljohn2 i know the pistols did'nt release as much as the clash but a clash album as good as never mind the ********
it always annoyed me a bit that in the early days joe strummer used to pretend he was this working class thicko when he was the son of a diplomat who went to public school.
though i did enjoy one of his last performances on later with jools playing london calling
