DVD-A [Import] Discs from Amazon.co.uk, Region 1 ?

DVD-A [Import] Discs from Amazon.co.uk, Region 1 ?

Dudes have seen a couple of [DVD AUDIO] [Enhanced] [Import] discs on the Amazon UK site that are of interest, but as I only have a Region 2 DVD-A player, Im wondering if they will play on my player, Im sure they will be OK as “In Absentia” is NTSC encoded and it works fine once I set to Auto PAL/NTSC, has anyone bought a disc and found it labelled Region 1 ?

hi m8
if your player is region 2 they wont play unless you can alter the player to multiregion
some alteratooins are available for some players to do this, not sure on your make and model so i cant say
region 1 is mainly aimed at america dvds

I know that Dozer, I am asking if these NTSC (Import) discs have any region data forced onto them, ie Porcupine Trees In Absentia does not.

I don't think region coding applies to dvd-a.

Well I've just checked all my DVD-A discs and the cover either states 'will play on all DVD players' or has the region symbol with 'all' written in it. I would therefore think that DVD-A discs are not region coded.

Mark.

Likewise here Mark. I've yet to come across a dvd-a title being coded for a specific region. Mind you, I haven't bought a dvd-a disc for a while.

shouldnt be a problem with DVD-A, i think one or two twin disc releases have a DVD-Video disc with video footage and DD/DTS surround that may be coded region 1 with the 2nd disc being just DVD-A music....but the DVD-A disc will play anywhere...

make sure you check everything on the amazon page, incl the technical details link if its there, if you cant find anything remarking on region (ie Region 0, Any Region, All Regions, Region 1, Region 2 etc etc) then buy the disc, if it dont work send it back to Amazon, they wont mind because they didnt provide you the full details.....just make sure its in absolutely pristine condition when you send it back so they can resell it...

oh, only time it makes a difference is when you put them in a computer drive, if the DVD-ROM drive isnt region free, then usually each time you put a DVD-A in, if you let it spin up the menu screen in your DVD player then it automatically changes your drives Region number.....so when you put a normal DVD film in it changes back to region 2.....most drives i think only allow up to 5 changes then get stuck on the region you last used...so be careful with that.....
whenever i put a DVD-A disc in i turn off auto startup for my drive first, then i can open the disc in Creatives DVD-A player, rather than a DVD video player....that doesnt do anything to the region thing that way....

... what he said - only consideration is whether your tv will play NTSC rather than PAL ... Paul
