Question SACD - Bass Management settings on Phillips 963SA?

I picked up one of the recent bargain (£99) 963SA's from Play.com, largely to dabble with SACD for the first time.

I'm playing through a Denon 2805 with Kef 2005.2 'eggs' sats & sub.

I'm not sure whether I should have Bass Management turned 'on' on the 963, or let the amp handle it?

All advice welcomed!

John

John,

for SACD you have to connect the multichannel audio out of the Philips. I think that would bypass the bass management on the Denon (unless it has BM on its multichannel analog inputs)

I do indeed have the DVD player connected to the 'Ext. In' of the 2805 via six phono cables.

I can't find any reference to bass management in the 2805's manual, so I guess I must tweak my speaker settings via the 963SA for SACD playback...

Yes, use the 963SAs bass management. If you go into the music mode speakers settings it's those that will be used when playing a multi channel SACD. Set the subwoofer to on and the crossover to the optimum value for the kef eggs (I've got it set to 120hz for my anthony gallo micros). Note that the bass management settings won't apply when playing a stereo SACD, you won't get any sub output just full range output to the front left and right speakers. For that I have my REL 100E connected via it's neutrik cable to the left and right front speaker terminals on my amp. All my SACDs are multi channel anyway so that's not really an issue.
Hope that helps

Cheers
Andy
