I got this too!
Pretty annoyed with them, what's the point in pre-ordering a title then saying they have no stock? Surely pre-order means they order enough of them for those that pre-ordered? Amazon have it for pre-order but it's a fiver more, going to check local HMV/Virgin tomorrow first.

Anyone actually got this yet?
I'm listening to it for the first time now. It's OK, not anything special on a first listen.

Nice to know it's not just me who has had this problem. I've sent them a snotty letter and will let you know the outcome. They shouldn't take pre-orders if they're not going to be in a position to honour it.
I'll never buy anything from them again purely on principal.

I think the album is pretty amazing, it takes a few listens, the acoustic cd alone gives the foo's a whole new dimension and surely makes them, if theyre not already, the finest rock band that exists (dont flame me).
Dave Grohl for president.

I got the CD/DVD version from Play yesterday.
Think I pre-ordered it about a month ago, when it was listed as just a 2CD release........
Feel sorry for you guys who missed out - not sure why Play get such limited copies of things like this. The Oasis album was the same - the limited version with the DVD was showing as "sold out" on Play weeks before release, yet every shop I went it had hundreds of copies of it !
As for the album itself, I think it needs a few more listens before I can pass judgement. Its definitely worth tracking down the DVD version though - the entire 2nd disc is recorded in 5.1, and sounds fantastic.
Ian.

on the subject of this dvd, sony seem a little confused as it isn't quite what it says on the box. there are two differences, 1) it IS a dvd-audio disc. if i put it in my machine in dvd-a mode, i get the whole of the second disc's music in 96khz 24bit resolution in both stereo and 5.1, if i put the machine in dvd-video mode i get the same music in 48khz 16bit stereo and dolby digital 5.1. this is a pleasant surprise. 2) the box claims that the dvd contains disc 2 in 5.1 and the WHOLE album in advanced resolution stereo. well, i've looked, but i can't find any of the music from disc 1, in any resolution. well, except on the cd. this is an unpleasant surprise.
so , does this make any difference? i don't usually bother with the lower res versions on my dvd-a discs, but here i heard them back to back. wow! i expected the 96/24 surround to be better than the dolby digital, and it is, but i was amazed by the difference between the two stereo tracks. the 96/24 absolutely blows away the 48/16. i still think the 24 bits against 16 is more significant than the 96khz against 48, but i didn't think the difference would be so big. my mother could even hear it!
if they had only done the same with the music from disc 1 of the album, i would be one very happy bunny. as it is, i don't understand why sony refuse to acknowledge that this is a dvd-a disc. surely this would be a selling point? or are they bringing the album out on sacd?

I think it takes a few listens too, but I agree the acoustic disc is brilliant. I think I need to get myself a DVD-Audio player Also got NIN:With Teeth on dualdisc so that's 2 discs worth now! ....just trying to justify getting a Denon DVD-2910 to go with my nice new AVR-2805
As for play, well I think I'll be writing a letter too. I mean I just walked into Virgin yesterday and bought it, ok maybe a fiver more but I still bought it!

Just thought everyone might want to have a sneak at Play.coms response. Views?
Thank you for your email.
Please again accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.
We can appreciate your frustration in this matter but unfortunately, we have been let down by our suppliers on this occasion.
Despite initial assurances that we would be in a position to meet all pre-orders for this title, we were subsequently informed a matter of days before its release that due to nationwide supply shortages a large proportion of orders would not be met.
At such a point, it has not been possible for us to secure alternative supply due to the demand for this title. We have therefore had no option but to cancel orders which were outstanding and have made efforts to offer an alternative at a discount price.
Once again, we offer our sincerest apologies that we have not been able to fulfil your order on this occasion
Kind regards,
Email Support Team

Sorry to disappoint but I got mine on time from Play.com.
Superb album. The rock CD isn't IMHO as good as One By One but it's a grower. The 2nd CD is fantastic.
Sadly I don't have a DVD-Audio player so haven't got round to trying the DVD disc yet.
