"Yoshimi vs the Pink Robots" by The Flaming Lips was recorded with the express intention of showing off the DVD-A format, so as a whizzing round the speakers, hi-res demo it can't be beaten.
But...
...for listening pleasure, I found the constant flitting about and sound panning to be distracting to the point of sheer irritation! Always listen to it in 2-channel now.

I think 'The Game' & 'A Night At The Opera' from Queen to be excellent DVD-A discs. But saying that I am a big Queen fan so probably would say that!
Mark.

Seal, Best of 1991-2004
Fleetwood Mac, Rumours
The Eagles, Hotel California
any AIX Records DVD-A for classical and jazz
Beck, Sea Change
Yes, Fragile
Any of these will give you an excellent taste of DVD-A.

Some good titles have been listed here.
If you want to hear "State of the Art" DVD-A go to the AIX Records site (aixrecords.com) and browse through their titles. If you see something you like, buy it. I gaurantee it will sound great.
If you shop online, you can usually find their discs for $5 to $8 less than the AIX site sells them for. | |

I have most of the ones already mentioned above & agree that they are all excellent ... I would add to that list ...
ELP "Brain Salad Surgery"
METALLICA "Metallica" aka The Black Album
MIKE OLDFIELD "Tubular Bells 2004"
PORCUPINE TREE "In Absentia"
PORCUPINE TREE "Deadwing" (my current fav & as good a DVD-A as I have laid ears on!)
Paul

I have 4 DVD-As all are pretty stunning to these ears (I listen to them all in Stereo)
Porcupine Tree : In Ansentia even though a 24/48Khz MC mix this still sounds stunning in downmix stereo via my DVD-A player. A beautiful album and the recording quality is stunning.
All the following have been bought specifically for their 24/96Khz stereo mixes (but they contain MC mixes too) :
George Benson : Breezin
Fleetwood Mac : Say You Will
Paul Simon : You’re the One
Out of these 3 and all 3 are stunning the one that stands out is Paul Simons effort. But all 3 are 10/10 musically.
PS If you want to try a DVD-V that is up there with these fine recordings, do a search on the forum for Dave Gilmours – Meltdown Concert Live , this shows how good DVD-V can get, its up there with DVD-A IMHO when done properly (well stereo wise). http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...843263-3010230

CJ,
Defo agree with you on the Gilmour DVD. I think it's the best DVD-V sound I have found....it is 96/26 PCM afterall so it is indeed up there with most DVD-A technically.
Cheers

while the Seal GH is good I think the Seal IV is a better DVD-A
the new NIN dualdisc DVD-A side isn't too shabby either

I'd agree with the current NIN album - With Teeth and Porcupine Tree's Deadwing, both sound top class.
