Beck Guero DVD-A

Does anyone else have this dvd-a disc? This is the first time I have purchased a DVD-A and I'm very disappointed with the audio quality. The CD sounds more dynamic.

This is the first time I have purchased a DVD-A. I have purchased a couple of SACD and have been very impressed with the improvement of the audio over the CD sound.

I'm playing the disc on a Denon 2200 going to a Denon 3805 amp with Ext in selected. My CD player is a Rotel RCD-02. Unless I have the setup wrong, is this normal with DVD-A disc?

Thanks

End of the day it all boils down to how well the disc has been mastered. Some of the DVDAs I've heard are worse than the CD versions (Led Zeps "How the west was won" springs to mind).

Best quality releases i've heard on DVD-A so far are :--

Eagles - Hotel California
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Queen - The Game & Night at the Opera
Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

Porcupine Trees "In Absentia" is supposed to be an incredible DVD-A, but i'm still waiting on Amazon delivering mine.

Thanks pringtef

I might try one of those to hear the difference.

The two SACD I have are both old recordings so I was hoping a new release would be that much better.

Eric

I have Guero and it is OK however Sea Change on SACD is better. Best DVD-A's I have are :

Jeff Trott - Dig Up The Astro Turf
Porcupine Tree - In Abstentia and Deadwing
Joni Mitchell - Both Sides Now
Philip Glass - Koyaanisqatsi

strange, I have this on DVD-A and it sounds amazing!! The mix is intelligent and well balanced, the dynamics are great and the bass it deep and very tight. One of my favourite 5.1 music discs

This is played back through a Pioneer AX10i with Artcoustic DF75-55s and Diablos etc

Love it!!

I reckon this is a pretty good example of a DVD-A, certainly not wanting in the dynamics dept.

Are you sure your listening to the DVD-A and not the DVD-V? Check the preferences on your DVD player.

Thanks for all your reply's.

Convinced something was wrong I checked by DVD settings:
Audio Channel - Multi
Super Audio CD - Multi
Digital out - Normal
LPCM (44.1kHz/48kHz) - OFF (not sure what this does!)
Bass enhancer - OFF
Player Mode - Audio

Selected Advanced audio and images on the DVD menu. Couldn't see there was anything wrong with these settings so I performed a new auto setup on the amp and hey presto now I can hear the difference. I have no idea what was wrong in the setup but its sure made a difference now I understand what's so fab about DVD-A
