As above, you get home from work and forgot that you left the gas on...the place is about to blow, but you can salvage 5 albums, along with your porn collection..

which albums do you save???

Guns n Roses - Appetite for Destruction
The first CD I ever bought and still gets listened to more than most.

The Get Up Kids - Something to Write Home About
Some of their other albums are a bit ropey but this is easily the best CD in my collection.

Green Day - Dookie

Rancid - ...And Out Come the Wolves
Both of the above are stunning and I'm sure I'd die quickly if I didn't have the option to listen to those.

The Clash - London Calling
An album for all seasons which I can safely say helped me get through one of the worst periods of my life so far.

Very tough call! However, in no particular order...

1. Achtung Baby - U2
2. Dog Man Star - Suede
3. The Queen Is Dead - The Smiths
4. Revolver - The Beatles
5. Funeral - Arcade Fire (current favourite)

Although i might be quicker just grabbing the PC hard drive...

Having said that, all my CDs are stored in an easy-to-carry fruit box so I could just grab the lot apart from the 23 at the end of the alphabet that won't fit.

Unfortunately it's Johnny Thunders to Wilt plus my compilations - not that I'm too fussed about those.
Good choice with SLF.

The Beatles - The Beatles
Peter Gabriel - PG4
Neil Young - Harvest
Del Amitri - Waking Hours

Tricky one. Obvious assumptions: GF, child and cat are already safe; CDs cannot be replaced (otherwise just leave them and buy new ones).

The Clash - London Calling
The Fall - This Nation's Saving Grace
Les Negresses Vertes - Mlah
Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
The Clash - Sandinista

On another day, it might be all Clash...

Ben folds Five - whatever and ever amen - it has song that connect with me, both happy and sad and its beautifully composed

Pulp - Different class - because its one of the best most listened to albums in my collection

Gin Blossoms - New miserable esperience (deluxe edition) - for the good songs and also for the all out blues songs and live versions on the second cd

Five For Fighting - 100 Years - probably the same reason as the first

BeachBoys - Little Deuce Coupe/All Summer Long - Just because Ok!

Jelly fish Belly button
It bites Once around the world
Yes: Drama, Fragile
Van Halen Van Halen1,2,DiverDown,1984
Crowded House: Temple of Low Men
Aimee Mann: Whatever
Big Dish: Satellites
Shawn Colvin: Whole New You
Francis Dunnery: Tall Blond Helicopter
Melissa Etheridge: Self Titled
Til Tuesday: Everythings Different

What can I say…..I am prepared to risk some burns for this stuff.

Jellyfish….no one like them. In the same way that Woodface is quite possibly the greatest pop album ever this is of the same ilk. I chose Temple instead of Lowface because I can sing all the Woodface stuff but Temple seems somehow more special…it’s the band starting to reach their stride and although not monetarily being huge for Crowded House it’s musically a tour de force with such varied sounds….I love it.

Yes: Prog gods…..I’m youngest of three boys in my family. Middle one was Genesis and Yes fan. He was four years older than me. I became instilled with this stuff. There is something quite remarkable about Fragile. It’s nuts but is so melodic and hympnotic…I can listen and listen and listen.

It Bites: The band everyone remembers from Calling All the Heroes. I remember from Get Fresh and them explaining they were rock band not pop band and wondering what they were talking about…then about 8-12 months later I saw Channel 4 documentary about guitars EQUINOX……Francis Dunnery(lead snger/guitarist) was featured on it. The stuff they were playing was for their forthcoming album. I thought it was fantastic. It was Once Around The World……I was well hooked. Funnily enough the band sight Yes/Genesis/ King Crimson etc at musical influences

Aimee Mann: Beautiful woman with amazingly poetic lyrics, superb melodies ………but a like it or loath it voice. I love it. This is her most immediate album I think but all her other albums are those classics that grow on you. I got her new album a week ago and have listened to it at least 10 times so far……and I love it.

Til Tueday: Aimee’s band from 80s made her famous in North America. Again, quite marvellous.

Shawn Colvin: Not sure what to say. Except this album somehow brings calm to me although I’m not sure it has calming lyrics….I adore it though.

Big Dish: Very Weird (that I chose it not the music) but I think this is one of the finest pop albums ever. Such a pity it failed commercially and proved their downfall. It’s deleted now but really, honestly, if you love great pop go find a copy!

Mellisa Etheridge: Best known for being gay….but for me best known for being one of th best female singer songrwriters with Ms Colvin and Mann. Her first four albums are great but there is something endearing and raw about this.

Van Halen: That first album was so ahead of the reast....they did covers...The Kinks like they would probably have done their songs had they had the technology.....who cares Dave Lee Roth can't sing...it's not important...this album is though!

Gordon

Great albums there I like Jellyfish although Spilt Milk wasn't a patch on Belly Button.

Temple of Low Men is great as is Crowded House (Hole in The River )

Aimee Mann - I would go either for Whatever or Lost In Space (Nightmare Girl on deluxe version ) Got her new CD yet?

Francis Dunnery/It Bites - Again superb. I got his solo CD from Missing for 49p sealed

Yes - Fragile & The Yes Album are two of my all time fav's of all time

Shawn Colvin - Tremendous (Mr.Levon )

Big Dish - That takes me back! Christina's World & Miss America, great stuff! Did yoiu get Steven Lindsay's new solo CD - recommended

Van Halen - Diver Down & 1984 are the best for me too. (Panama is best)

ME - Not such a big fan but worth a listen to

Kenny: Read more carefully matey....I have the new Aimee Mann CD and it's on repeat inthe car....some more classic stuff on it. Francis Dunnery has tons of solo albums. I've got them all I think.

Will now go looking for Stephen Lindsay's solo album. Saw them at Tuts on when Big Dish last album came out in 91? Love that album. Guess Stephen Lindsay thing is similar? Thanks for the tip.
