Cool Is This The Right Way To The Dark Side.

Bit unsure where to put this. Here or the DVD section?

Earlier today the misses brought home a copy of “Dark Side Of The Moon” and whilst reading the cover I discover that it’s a SACD. Which is all new to me.

Anyway, after reading up on these SACD’s I discover that my DVD player (Pioneer 565a) can play these discs. All I had to do is connect the Multi Channels to my Amp (Sony STRDB780). Pressed play and nothing, no sound.

After a bit of reading the manuals and fiddling around I got sound from Pink Floyd eventually by unplugging the digital coax from the DVD player.

After listening to Pink Floyd I then decided to try a DVD film and no sound again until I plugged the digital coax back into the DVD player.

Question: Do I have to go through this routine of unplugging the digital coax from the DVD player every time I want to listen to a SACD or have I missed something?

Awesome sound from a brilliant album. This album just never ages.

Your thoughts would be welcome. TIA.

I'm not sure regarding the Sony, but my Denon and others require you to switch to external input (ext.in.) to tell the amp the DVD is doing the processing. It should then select the external inputs and ignore the coax input giving you DSOTM in surround SACD.

What Drd said

Tardis: Wish You Were Here should be appearing on SACD too by the end of the year. Fingers crossed...

With the Pio565 you need to go into the audio menu as well and tell it what track to use as default...I think the default track it will play will be the sterio track not the multi-channel. Enjoy

Also Tardis> The original quad versions of Wish You Were Here and Animals are available on DTS-CD *cough cough*. Haven't been able to find Atom Heart Mother yet.

Tradis

play.com has a special DTS CD section although they don't have all the titles available.

Amazon.co.uk have a great selection of both or you can try amazon.com in the US as their selection is larger and the £/$ rate is in our favour just now.

Don't rush into buying a lot of DTS CDs as many have been / are being redone as SACDs.

I like Amazon for SACDs. The searching is a bit crap but the range is pretty good. www.SA-CD.net lists every disc going and has links to vendors, thats the best place to start.

As for DTS-CDs. I wasn't refering to ones officially available, these are audio enthusiast conversions.
