Please post here suggestions for good *music* tracks / albums to really test out your sub....

I'll start with Jarre's 'Aero' - the CD sounds awesome, the 5.1 DTS DVD is totally gob smacking. Tight, punchy, low end extension - recorded with state of the art equipment. The opening seconds... turn the sound up to reference level before hitting the play button. Have a spare pair of pants handy...PJ

PS someone else want to start a similar thread for movies?

There's loads of threads like this, particularly in the movies section. In fact one was started last week in the "Hifi seperates" section which you might like to read.

For depth of bass, try listening to "Jimmy Jazz" by The Clash. Unfortunately that's quite a poor recording. Also try "Lateralis" by Tool which plummets at the start.

For speed, I'd recommend anything out of the Rancid catalogue ("....And Out Come the Wolves" & "Rancid 2000" are probably the best choices) as Matt Freeman is a phenomenal bass guitar player. Strangely, he plays about twice as fast live which is very impressive to hear!

A bit of a left field suggestion here but one of the best albums Ive ever heard or own is from a Cuban Double Bass player called Orlando Caichato Lopez :

Part of the World Circuit stable, that brought the Buena Vista Social Club to a hifi near you, stunning music, stunning recording but really one of the best Bass albums Ive ever heard. Apart from the usual suspects for serious bass abusers (Massive Attack, Leftfield et al) I would also suggest the following albums too that are spot on for some sub terranean bass :

Orb – UFOrb & Cydonia
Sasha – Involver & Airdrawndagger
Sabres Of Paradise : Sabresonic I & II
Talvin Singh : HA & OK
Kraftwerk : Tour De France 2003 Remixes
Thievery Corporation – Tales from the TC Hifi

But before any of those I would get the Cuban chap …… Stunning, even has some dub influences on it.

Just got Massive Attack - Mezzanine in the post today. Had a brief listen and recognise 3-4 tracks which are excellent. In fact, most of the album I think is great, Unfortunately though, being in the room above my parents, there's 0 chance of getting to punch it through my XLS200 at the moment

Muse - Hullaballo DVD One of the best sounding concert recordings I have EVER heard. Bass drum/bass punches through at unbelievably low depths!
