Queen: 2005 Tour - what do you think?

The remaining members of Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor, have announced that they will be undertaking a UK Tour in the Spring of 2005, with Paul Rodgers (Free / Bad Company) replacing the late Freddie Mercury on vocals. What do you think of this? Do you think Queen should have been laid to rest when Freddie Mercury died, or do you feel that this new collaboration, 13 years after Freddie's death, might work? It should be also noted that original Queen bassist John Deacon is not likely to be involved in this project, so it will effectively only be half of Queen who are actually performing. Do you think they should still use the Queen name, or should they treat the Paul Rodgers collaboration as something totally new?

You'd think they'd make enough money thru continued CD sales without having to do a tour.
Queen died when Freddie did in my view.

I can't see that it's about money. As you say, they make enough through CD sales, as well as the DVDs and DVD-As which are being released, and they are far less like hard work than touring. I would love to see May and Taylor performing again, with Paul Rodgers, if he is their choice (he is a great singer), but I have a slight problem with them calling it Queen, as it isn't Queen without Freddie. I think it will certainly be an interesting project, none the less.

It's being speculated that the tickets could be £55 each!
That might change a few people's minds. I can remember when you could go to a concert for £6.50, at the Hammersmith Odeon, and still have change for the bus fare home!

I would be interested in this, after all the bass playing was not all that important a feature of Queen if I'm honest about it. OK so Freddie was the genius behind a lot of it, but I'd like to see the old songs live again.
By the way I still have a stub for a season ticket for Mansfield Town FC for £7.50 For the whole season !

In interviews in the last ten years, BM has always struck me as a bit of a prat. I honestly dont think this lineup will be anyway near the quality we are expecting.

It's a bit sad that it's being condemned even before anyone has heard a single note from them. I'm willing to give it a listen to first and then condemn afterwards if it warrants it

I will be going to watch them perform.
I agree that it isn't the same without Freddie, but i 've seen Brian May on a solo tour, and he was brilliant.
He played and sang a few Queen songs, mainly the ones he had written....these tend to be the heavier songs from Queens repertoire.

If your into Queen, I would also recommend you go and see We Will Rock You at the Dominion Theatre in London.
A good night out, great music and quite a funny script (written by Ben Elton), with plenty of topical ad-libs thrown in.

Cheap tickets are available Monday to Thursday for £20 (just quote DVD offer when booking)

It could be a decent 2005 for an oldish rocker like me with U2 also touring.

I would love to see it - but at £65 for a ticket (and I do qualify) they can forget it!

Its not Queen if theres no Freddy Mercury, thats who people went to see, thats what made Queen a special live band. Without Freddy they are just another half decent rock band, their music was never brilliant, much as I enjoy listening to them.

They should have just quit and formed another band, taken a leaf out of Led Zeps book. You would be better of going to see a tribute band, at least thats honest and you know what your buying.

No, it's not Queen without Freddie, but as he's somewhat indisposed, this might be the best we can get.

Personally, although I would love to see them, £55 per ticket, plus booking fees, plus postage, adds up to nearly £65, which is a bit prohibitive, especially as you also have to add on travelling costs.

Where are the cheapest seats located. I'd love to take my 2 kids and the Mrs but at £260 for the 4 of us, at the dearest prices it might be a bit much

Price Range: £29.50 - £49.50

Add to this the ticketmaster processing fees of £6 per ticket and postage of £1.75 and it soon adds up.

The arena at Manchester will be set up for the stage at the end as per THIS SEATING CHART. My own tickets are in block 102, lower tier, just left of the stage.

The £29.50 tickets will be upper tier, probably blocks 205 - 212.
